Chapter 2 ~ Reveal

*Melissa pov*

Its finally the weekend, I wake up at about 10, it's really nice to be able to sleep in. Waking up at 6 to go to school is not always very fun. Although on weekends it's not like I do anything special anyway. I usually just play video games all day, and look at pictures of Eli. I talk to Amelia on the phone sometimes too. I spend a lot of time yelling at my little sister Mia. She can be so annoying sometimes. What pisses me off even more is when she comes in my room to complain about something, then when she leaves she doesn't even shut the door! Ugh siblings suck. But today will be different. I am going to walk to the beach that I saw Eli at yesterday. What if he is there today? Well I would probably chicken out and run away, but you never know, what if I get the guts to talk to him. Probably not, but Amelia might be there too. I get up and put on a purple striped long sleeve shirt. Purple is my favorite color, its so amazing. Then I put on black leggings and put my hair in a pony tail. I go outside and start walking to the beach. It's pretty breezy outside, I should have brought a coat.

*About 15 minuets later*

I arrive at the beach after about fifteen minuets of walking. It is pretty cold down here. The tide is high so there is not much room to walk around. I see some tide pools out on the rocks, and I go check them out. I look into the tide pools but I don't see any fish or little creatures. I stand up and start making my way back to the beach. There is a big gust of wind and I start to loose my balance, I start to fall over, I try to hang on to something but its too late. I plunge into the water, I feel the cold take over my whole body. I can taste the freezing salty water in my mouth. I start panicking and sinking down. I scream but I know no one can hear me. "he-l-p" I only see bubbles escaping my mouth, I am almost out of breath. Am I going to die? No I can't. Somebody please help me! Just then I feel strong arms pick me up bridal style, wait what? Who is this? What is happening? I turn my head and see Eli?! What is he doing underwater? He looks so concerned, my vision starts to go black. I finally feel the air, but I can't move. I feel someone pushing on my lungs, then I unexpectedly feel something on my lips, they were cold, but soft. I immediately cough up some water and open my eyes, I try to sit up but I fall back down, "whoa don't try to sit up yet." He says.

"Wait Eli?!"

"Haha yea..." Eli says, while looking behind him. I look at what he is looking at, and it is a giant tail! It is green, tinted silver It is amazing. I just sit and stare, I can't even think of anything to say...

"Wait wha-" I can't even finish my sentence, I am shocked... "Wait your a.... mermaid? or I guess, merman...?"

"um.. yea.." He says while nervously scratching the back of his neck.

"I-"

"Please don't tell anyone, humans are never supposed to know about this... But I just couldn't watch you drown..."

"I- I won't... I- It's beautiful.. " I can't believe I just said that.

"Thank you." He says smiling and blushing. "um... also.."

"What is it?"

Just then, Amelia jumps out of the water! And she has a tail too!! It is a very pretty turquoise and gold.

"AMELIA?!"

"Hi, yea... I'm really sorry I haven't told you this, I just... We aren't supposed to tell anybody, and I mean nobody, I was scared to tell you.. I just, I'm sorry.

"It's ok, I understand. Your tail is really amazing by the way."

"Haha thanks."

"So, like, how, I mean, like, why are you guys here?"

Amelia says, "well its a long story, but Eli and I were just 7 years old when it happened. Everyone was living peacefully, away from human contact, no human has known about mermaids, It has just been a myth for hundreds of years. We all lived so deep in the Ocean we though no human would ever find us there. But we were wrong, one day tons of humans came down, throwing nets everywhere, catching everyone, and the ones that fought back.. well.. were killed. Some of us escaped, we moved here, to a different town. We learned how to shift, to have human legs, so we could co-exist with you guys."

"Oh, I-I'm sorry" I say, still in shock.

"Yea, so please don't tell anyone."

"I promise I won't." I say, I start shivering, I am so cold now.

"here," Eli says, he shifts into human form and walk onto the land. All he has on are jeans, but no shirt. Revealing his perfectly toned six-pack. "Oh my," I say. Did I really just say that out loud?! He probably thinks i'm so weird now. He blushes and keeps walking. He walks over to a log and lifts it up, there is a shirt and a sweatshirt under it. He walks back over and hands me his sweatshirt. I blush and put in on.

"Th-thank you.."

"No problem" he says, Amelia winks at me and smiles.

He shifts back into a Merman and goes back into the water, "Well I'll see you later Melissa!" He says while waving and smiling. "Ya!" I say, he swims away into the open ocean.

"Well, I have to go too, but I'll see you on Monday at school!" Amelia says, smiling.

"Yeah, see you later" I say back. She swims away, I stand up and start walking home. I can not believe that just happened.

*Eli pov*

I know that I shouldn't have saved her, I know that I shouldn't have showed myself to her, I just, I couldn't watch her die. I just have to trust that she won't tell anybody. I sure hope she doesn't. I never really payed any attention to her, but now I realize that she is actually really pretty... Wait why am I thinking about that?! It's not like our relationship would be allowed anyway... But am... am I, falling in love?
