The Calm After a Storm

As we approached the broken place we called home, a smile forms on our faces. The long awaited return of two, not one finally approaches. I step to the side of the house, "One minute." I said, grabbing onto a wooden board.

"What do you need that for?" Rain asked.

"The broken window, you get the broom by the fridge."

"Ok"

We continued into the house, close to each other. Up the steps and down a small hall. Then into my room, my jaw opens wide, "What happened in our absents."

My room was renovated completely, one side fitted with a wide bunk bed sided by a small desk with a chair and a lamp. A flat screen tv was across from the beds on a lengthy brown drawer designed with swirls.
The other side was set with another two desks, one with my old computer, the other topped with a extravagant white note decorated with roses and other flower petals.

I sigh, "Well it is a room for two now..."

The glass had been cleaned up and no blood was in sight. A perfectly new window was in place and a new curtain covered it. I turn to Rain who was starring at the beds with a longing look.

"Sleep sounds great doesn't it?" I ask.

Her tail wags for a second, "Yes, but..." She looks towards me. "I... Umm.." She didn't have to continue as her ears droop in shame. A strike hit my heart, the feeling of fright. "If you don't mind... I'd prefer to be close to yo-you..." Rain looks over to me. "Do you mind if I- I stay with you for a little bit?" I noticed a slight tremble in her body.

"If you're fine with this. Yes, you may." I reply to her stuttered question.

Her face bursts to a rosy red as she tried at a, "Thank you..."

Our bodies slowly take a position on the bed, "So, how are we doing this?" I ask.

Her furs burst up and she grabs the smaller of two pillows. She aligns it along the bed and crawls to the far side, "No crossing that line."

I nod at Rain's arrangement. The left over pillow was large enough to cover both sides of the bed. With a yawn, I lay down. Rain hesitated for a moment before settling down and laying next to me with only a pillow at our hips to separate our bodies. She pulls up the blanket and I follow. Rain faces the wall and I turn towards the newly made room, closing my tired eyes.
Time passes, but my droopy eyes never stayed close. I just laid there, not to move until I am told to. Now that I had time to rest, I felt guilt. I felt at fault for what Rain had to go through. I am to follow the orders of the vixen until I lose my guilt, that's how I felt. She deserves this. I left her alone when she truly wanted to be near me, when she was truly scared.
As I let my thoughts eat at me a whimper sounded at my side. Following it was the fangs of loneliness, sinking the icy points into my heart. I slowly turn to see that back of a girl's head. Rain's ears twitched along with muffled cries.

"Rain?" I whisper.

In return, a small gasp and a sniffle radiated. She tenses up and moves her hand to her mouth.

I sigh and reach for Rain's head, patting it gently, "I can't try to help you if you keep it locked up."

Her body shifts towards me, showing a rainfall of tears. Without warning she reaches around me, pulling herself close to me. With a small cry, she asks, "You're really Rysen, right?" She grabs tightly onto the black fabric.

She places her head into my chest and I move my hands to reach around her. With a soft smile, I reply, "Mhmm." Gently, it rolled from me, the soft sound to confirm her question.
