I hugged both Leona and Jerry goodbye, wearing a cute white sweater with light-blue greyish stripes, and jeans. Spiffy rubbed against my ankles as I walked out. I laughed. "No, kit-kit. You can't come." She looked up at me and mewed, and I couldn't help but to reach down and pet her. She was so cute. I took my car and drove off. I pulled into the parking lot and gathered my things, and headed into school. As I walked in, I was in such a hurry to get to homeroom, I ran smacko, straight into a guy. He started to walk away, but his freind said "Come on, Flash. Help the gal. You ran into her." They all laughed, all four of them with him, and Flash, I guess, smacked the guy that had said that on the back of the head, and came over to me. His friends walked away, laughing. I was still gathering my papers, and he helped me and stood up when I did, his brown eyes looking into mine. "Hey," he said. "I don't think I've seen you around here before." I nodded cooly, managing to hold his gaze and saying "Yeah, I'm new here. My name's Jen, but I go by Dandy." He smiled a little and held out a huge hand "My name's Rodger, but I go by Flash since I'm on the football team. Nice to meet you, Dandy." I smiled and shook it. "Likewise. Maybe I'll see you in class?" I guessed he was the same age as I was, though he was a good bit taller than I was. His half smile then grew into a full one. "I hope so. See ya, Dandy. I gotta catch up with the guys." "Later." As I predicted, he was the same age as me. He ran jogged down the hallway and caught up with his buddies into a room which was one of my classes, his homeroom. I hurried into Ms. Beck's class, and sat down next to a girl who looked nice. She had long, brown hair, freckles, and dancing blue eyes. A few girls where pointing at me and whispering, but I didn't pay attention. The girl introduced herself to me. "Hi! I'm Daz, short for Dazzelina, but no one calls me Dazzelina unless they're mad at me. You are?" I smiled. "I'm Jen, but all my friends call me Dandy." She nodded and we started talking, and it was clear that we were going to be good friends. After a little bit a girl came up to me and asked "Did you really talk to Flash!?" Instantly, all the girls stopped talking and looked straight at me. I scratched the back of my head, because I felt really uncomfortable. "Uh, yeah. Why?" All the girls gaped and looked at each other. A low "Woooow." Passed through the room. After a few minutes, everything went back to normal, chatter filled the room again. I knitted my eyebrows together and looked at Daz for an explanation. "Flash is the most popular boy in the school. Most of the girls have a crush on him, except the ones who are dating, obviously. Most girls would give anything to talk to him. You are so lucky. How did you even get to talk to him?" Daz sounded so much like a valley girl in that moment, but I didn't say anything about it. "Uh, well, I ran into him, and, he helped me pick up my stuff. That's how we started talking." I heard a squeal from behind me. "Does he know your name?" I turned around to address the girl who had been listening behind us. "Yeah." I turned back to Daz, saying in a whisper "This is soooooo weird." Daz chuckled. "That's what you get for talking to a popular guy." I raised my hands in defense. "I didn't know he was popular!" Daz didn't answer, but smirked as class began. The rest of the day went smoothly, and like I had hoped, most of my classes were with Daz, and a few of my classes were with Flash. At lunch, I sat with Daz and a few other friends, but when I went to throw away my trash, I tripped over someone's leg. I fell, dropping my garbage. "Oops." I heard a fimiliar voice say. I looked up. Riley. She grinned an evil smile. "Sorry, Annie." All at once, I heard another fimiliar voice. "Apologize, Riley!" Flash!? I felt a strong hand take my arm and pull me up. "You okay?" I was looking into Flash's face. I nodded, but ooh, my leg hurt. Really bad. Daz stepped to my side, my other friend, Abby, took my trash and tossed it. "I said, apologize!" Flash said to Riley. Riley turned to me and mumbled "Sorry, Jen." By this time, the whole cafeteria was staring at us. A nodded curtly to accept and just to be polite, but I saw a look an Riley's eyes that said This isn't over yet, orphan. I ignored it and tried to walk, but winced and stumbled. Flash looked at me worriedly, but Daz got on one side of me and helped me back to the table, though I had a bad limp. Flash headed back to his table. I noticed again that all the girls were looking at me. Lunch ended and I headed to the rest of my classes, and there was always someone to help me walk, usually Daz, even if she was in a different class, the teacher would write a quick note saying that she was late because she was helping me. Girls came up to me and said how awesome it was that Flash did that for me at lunch and how jealous they were. I drove home, and walked in with my bad limp. When Leona saw this, she made me sit down and tell her all about my day. She listened carefully until I finished. "You know what I think?" I knew what she was going to say. She said the exact same thing with Steve. "I think he likes you." I rolled my eyes. "No way. We're just friends."
