Chapter 12 - Mission to the Land of Waves

*Short Time Skip*

"I'm surprised with who you all chose so stay behind. It's a shame I didn't get a chance to fight you eh Rekka?" Kakashi said with narrowed eyes. "Well now why don't we all have lunch? After all, it doesn't sound like any of you had breakfast this morning." He continued as three stomachs growled. "Oh, and no one is to feed Rekka." He finished and walked away.

Everyone sat down next to the pole I was tied to and began hungrily digging into their lunches.

*Naruto's POV*

Kakashi-sensei walked off and left us to out lunches which we all began to eat immediately. I was halfway done with my lunch when I remembered when Rekka-chan had offered me her lunch before at the academy. Her kind voice echoed in my head. 'We're friends right? I won't let my friend go hungry.' I frowned that the memory and stood up in front of Rekka-chan. The others watched me and as I brought the food up in front of Rekka, but Sakura-chan's voice stopped me.

"Naruto, what do you think you are doing?" She hissed. "Sensei just told us not to feed her! Do you want to get sent back to the academy too?"

"But I can't let Rekka-chan go without food. How can I when we are passing because of her?" I questioned.

"Fine, but if you get caught it's your own fault." Sakura stubbornly said.

'Why is Sakura being this way towards Rekka-chan?'

"You shouldn't Naruto. I'll be fine, I ate this morning unlike the rest of you." Rekka said, bringing me out of my thoughts towards Sakura. 

 "If I get sent back though at least we will still be together right? I'm not going to let you starve while we eat in front of you!" I said determined. All I received was a nod in response.

I looked back at Sakura. 'I won't be on the same team as her, but I don't want to be without Rekka-chan. She's my first friend. My only friend. And if we go back to the academy surely things will be more fun with her right?'

 "Rekka's POV*

All I could do was nod. I was shocked. After all this time and training to get to this point, he's willing to go back to the academy with me. He's willing to fail and not go on to being a genin just because he doesn't want me to go without food while they do. 'Why is he doing this? Aren't I trying to take one for the team? Letting myself stay back while they go on?' 

I can see his smile beneath my headband. He's okay with returning because I will be there too. Because we'll be together. Is this what friends are? 'I guess in the end, I too will be happy, because he will be there with me as well.'

However I don't plan on going back to the academy. I don't thing i can stand a year there. I don't know how Naruto was able to after he failed the graduation test each time either.

I saw Uchiha get up out of the corner of my vision and come to stand in front of me to. He held out his remaining lunch towards me and looked away.

"Better hurry up before Kakashi-sensei gets back." He muttered.

I smiled. 'Warming up to your team mates finally?'

"Sasuke-kun...?" I heard Pinky confusedly ask, but she got no reply from either boys. Sighing she too got up and following the Uchiha's lead, reluctantly holding out the remains of her lunch. "I hope we don't get caught." She muttered.
