Hiccup's P.O.V.

I followed Gobber to a table with Merida trailing behind. I don't think she fully trusted him.

"Wait here while I go get some food," he said, going to get a whole roasted chicken.

As soon as he was out of earshot, Merida turned to me.

"Who the heck is he?" she asked.

"I think, well, I remember growing up with him teaching me. He taught me how to work in the smiths. I think he also taught dragon training."

Merida's eyes went wide.

"You mean, where you come from, everyone learns how to ride a dragon?"

"Well, not exactly. Dragon training is where you learn to kill a dragon."

"Then why-?"

She was cut off by Gobber, who had come back with three plates of food.

"I'm really sorry, but I don't remember much. It might come back if you explained what happened...?" I said, implying he should tell the story.

"Well, you were always messing up when it came to dragons. You nearly destroyed half the village once.

"On one raid, a Monstrous Nightmare chased you into the middle of town. Ot burnt down a fire post and everyone blamed it on you."

"Quite wrongly, I might add," I said as the memories came rushing back.

"But you kept saying you had used one of your contraptions to shoot down a Night Fury.

"Of course, no one believed you, but something kept nagging me in the back of my mind. After I left the smiths and you went out to use your contraption, the Night Fury attacks had stopped.

"Anyways, Stoick, your father finally decided to put you in dragon training.

"You didn't do well the first few weeks, but suddenly, you were doing great. Top of the class!

"But one day, after you had run off, like you normally did. Astrid came running into town-

"Wait, whose Astrid?" Merida said, interrupting Gobber.

"Astrid is a girl in my village. She's our age." I couldn't meet her eyes.

Merida's P.O.V.

When Hiccup told me about Astrid, he wouldn't meet my eyes.

Hmmmmmm.

Did he have a crush on Astrid?

Jealousy was burning in me. I tried to ignore it.

"Go on," I said to Gobber.

Hiccup's P.O.V.

"Astrid came running into the village one day, screaming something about a Night Fury," Gobber continued.

"When we finally calmed her down, she explained that she had followed Hiccup into the forest and found him with a Night Fury. And that you had made a friend out of it.

"Imagine everyones surprise. Stoick ordered everyone to bring their weapons, and we headed out into the forest.

"I had tried to convince your father that this was a bad idea, and that maybe Astrid had seen it all wrong.

"Having a Night Fury on our side might not be so bad! But he refused to listen.

"When we got there, Stoick ordered us to stay hidden until his command.

"And sure enough, there you were, eating fish with a blacker than black dragon.

"That dragon was beautiful. I looked at Stoick and saw him looking on with wonder.

"There you were, laughing and joking with a dragon. You would toss him fish and he would go after them.

"Some Terrible Terrors flew in and you tossed them some fish. You were interacting with the dragons better than the people in Berk.

"Suddenly, we saw some Outcasts burst into the valley. You jumped up and put a hand on that dragon, stopping him from attacking.

"They had seen me flying with Toothless," I said, "They wanted in on the secret."

"I went to get up, but Stoick put a hand on my shoulder. I went on watching, wanting to go down and help you.

"It looked like you argued with them until you seemed to have calmed them down. Then you ran and jumped on you dragon, Toothless, and started flying away.

"But an Outcast threw something at you and you went down, not to far away.

"They cheered as the clamped down on Toothless's mouth, making sure he didn't fire on them. You were tied up.

"The took you away, and I didn't see you until today, missing a leg.

"I argued with Stoick. I said that as a father, he should be watching out for his son. But all he said was that you weren't his son. That you betrayed the Berk."

"They took me to their ships," I said, not believing my father disowned me.

"They took Toothless and tied him up. They tied me up too. I, I was beat for not talking. Berk grew smaller and smaller until it disappeared.

"I was able to get free while they were asleep. I freed Toothless and was about to take off, but someone noticed and aroused everyone.

"They swung their swords at me. One of them caught my leg and left a huge gash. I barely got on Toothless.

"But we didn't make it far before we crashed. I got seperated from Toothless and I hit my head really hard.

"I stumbled around until I came to your home," I said to Merida.

"I think I always knew you guys were there, watching what happened. I looked back as the took me away and saw the outline of a bunch of vikings.

"I somehow knew that they weren't Outcasts."

Gobber bent his head.

"I came here looking for useful tools but found you. You must come back."

"What?" I gasped, "Why? If what you say is true, my father doesn't want me."

Merida touched my arm.

"My mother has been bugging me on going out to a different village and learning about them. I could go with you."

"Thanks," I said, smiling at her.

"I leave tomorrow at noon. But for now, I must continue my trading," Gobber said, standing up.

"Bye Gobber. See you tomorrow," I called out, waving.

Tomorrow would be very interesting.

Author's Note: Pretty good, right? I am thinking of doing a Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons book after this. Be sure to check out my other works. I just added a book called Random. Check it out. Later!
