Hiccup's P.O.V.
I woke up the next day to see the sun just starting to rise. I sat up in my bed and stretched. Then I remembered the previous day.
I have to start packing.
When I put my last peice of clothing in my bag, Merida burst in.
"Hurry! My mum might wake up soon!" she said grabbing my arm.
"Why do we have to leave before your mum wakes up?"
"She, uh, mighta said, um, no?"
"What?"
"I thought she would let me come. I went and asked her but it turns out she already had plans for me."
"What are the plans?"
"Remember the day I came to the smiths ranting about the betrothal letters my mum had sent out without telling me? They are arriving today to compete for my hand. And I really don't want to stay here."
I paused for a second. Betrothal? I don't know why but I don't like the sound of that word. I felt jealousy bubbling in me. I tried to push it away as we hurried towards the stables. I woke up Toothless and we flew to the docks.
"Hiccup! Welcome aboard!" Gobber exclaimed as we landed on his boat. It was a traditional viking ship. I helped Merida off Toothless.
"When will we be leaving?" she asked, nervously looking around the docks.
"We can leave right now. I was just waiting for you." And with that, Gobber cast off.
We were about half way, according to Gobber, when we heard the sound of drums.
"Get Toothless down!" Merida exclaimed. She started struggling with a big tarp. I helped her cover Toothless as the drums got louder. The minute Toothless was covered, she dove behind some barrels.
I turned and saw the source of the drums. Three ships were coming towards us. They all had Scottish clan symbols. I realized they were the clans coming for Merida's betrothal.
I watched them pass. The second the were out of sight, I gave the all clear to Merida and helped get the tarp off of Toothless. It was a little after noon when an island came into view.
I remembered running around the woods. I remembered sitting by a fire, listening to Gobber talk about dragon training.
"What's that?" Merida asked joining me at the front of the ship, watching the island grow closer.
"Berk."
