The trolls have incredible singing voices. It's common for trolls to sing their Moirail/Matesprit to sleep. While on the asteroid, the trolls needed to be sung to sleep to keep away the worst of the dreams due to the lack of sopor. While the humans had different sounding voices it still helped the trolls, and the trolls also sang to the kids. The first time Karkat helped one of the kids sleep was when Dave had a nightmare. He had the best voice and Dave still pokes at him for not telling him.
