Chapter 2

I woke up to the sound of someone calling my name and to the light of a new day.

“Rei,” I recognized Boomer say. “Rei, you okay?”

“What?” I asked still in mid sleep.

“Oh my, God, you had us worried sick!” Juni said. She and Boomer grabbed me both by one arm and pulled me up right.

“Did you sleep here last night?” Boomer asked.

“I...I think. What happened?” I asked again.

“You tell us,” Boomer said. “Last night you disappeared from your party and you...I don't know what happened after that.”

I suddenly felt my hand burn again, with that everything came back to me. My hand burned like hell again and I saw smoke coming out of my sleeve.

I screamed at the stinging pain and made both Boomer and Juni let go. I started to walk away from them while shaking my hand to make the pain go away.

“Rei, wait up!” Boomer said. “Are you okay? What happened?”

I paid no attention and kept walking until I felt a harsh hand pull me back to face them both. I took a deep breath and looked up. I didn't know if I should tell them. Were they going to believe me, was my question.

Before I knew my mind had decided it, I was already telling them. “Do you believe in dragons?” I asked them both.

They looked at each other and then back at me.

“There's this legend about two dragons that are here to keep balance,” Boomer said. “I sort of believe it.”

I lifted my jacket revealing the dragon's mark. It was white and scaly with lavender stone as the eye. When touched, it was smooth on my skin. It was like a 3D tattoo that looked a little too real.

“That is exactly what I'm talking about! Rei, where did you get that Mark?”

“Last night, in this very back alley. A woman was killed and she passed this...this...curse onto me.”

“Rei, you don't understand,” Boomer said. “It is an amazing honor what you've been given.”

I looked at Juni for back-up, but she replied, “I'm really confused, so I will let you two battle it out.”

“Rei, the Mark of the Dragon makes you Queen of the Heavens and Earth. You have become the most powerful teen on this planet.”

“I don't want to be the most powerful eighteen year old on this planet,” I snapped. “I can barely deal with drama like seeing my crush and his girlfriend have sex at my party. Boomer, I saw a woman get killed for baring this mark. I don't wanna die!”

“We have a lot of work to do,” he replied. “Juni you come too. We have to help her.”

“Ooookaaay,” she said not even arguing.

Boomer led us to Juni's car where we all got into it to get to...I don't even know where. “Where are we going?” I asked matter-of-factly.

“To your house,” Boomer said. Juni realized she hadn't asked where we were going, so she made a huge U-turn that almost killed us when a car almost crashed into us. We all screamed bloody murder as our bodies swung to the left almost flipping the car over on it's side.
