“On your marks…get set….GO!”
BANG!! The roar of the gun echoes through the stadium. I take off to a good start closing in on the inner lane to get the lead.
One lap down, I can already feel the burn in my thighs and the weight on my chest, I pick up my speed breaking away from the group.
Almost there, almost at the finish line. About 10 more meters. I chance a look behind me, expecting to be at least 5 meters in-front of everyone. But to my disappointment I come face to face with Chelsea Branton, the girl of every boys dream, bright blue eyes, flawless golden skin and bleach blonde hair extensions halfway down her back ,but everything about her is fake, fake nails, eyelashes and tons of makeup. She picks on anyone, treats guys like shit and thinks the sun shines out of her own arse.
My hatred towards her pushes me the last metre or two in front of her and winning the Senior Girls 800m final.
I double over and catch my breath as the rest of the girls finish, I get handed a bottle of chilled water, I gulp the water and appreciate the cooling affect it has on my flaming body.
“Watch your back, bitch.” Chelsea sneered as she strolled by “You won’t win next time”.
I just rolled my eyes and made my way into the changing rooms, I stripped off my sweaty clothes and stood under the scolding water and closed my eyes as it cascaded over my body. I scrubbed off all of the sweat and grime from myself and made my way to my locker. I pulled out my gym bag and quickly got changed into my black jeans, a baggy white t-shirt, my loose fitting grey cardigan and a purple and blue Aztec print infinity scarf.
I rolled my unruly long brown hair into a messy top-knot and secured it with a hair tie. I lazily walked through the corridors of my college towards the main entrance humming quietly Counting Stars by OneRepublic.
As I exit the school, I see my large group of friends waiting for me, and in the middle my true best friend Oscar Smart, we’ve been best friends since we were both 4, so for 15 years now. I know for a fact that most of the girls in our classes fancy him, to be honest I can’t blame them he is very good looking, he’s tall, has bright blue eyes and messy dark brown hair. I admit to liking him a little when we were 13 but that feeling went as fast as it came, we would’ve never worked and our friendship is too good to risk.
“Iris Falconi” he shouted getting everyone’s attention “the Senior Girls 800m champion!!”
He beamed at me as everyone erupted in cheers and opened his arms for me to easily walk into, his strong arms wrapped around me.
“Well done Pickle” he whispered “I knew you could do it”
“Thanks Stinky” I replied chuckling lightly.
It was then when I noticed the unfamiliar figure standing behind Oscar chatting with Trish and Emily, my closest girlfriends.
I nudged Oscar’s elbow interrupting him from his conversation with his guy friends about football, “What Pickle?” I indicated with my head towards the stranger, who’s voice seemed very familiar.
“Who is that?”
“Oh, well, that is my cousin, the one and only Bobbly Lockwood, we had never met before because my mum hadn’t been in contact with her sister for at least 20 years but we met yesterday at this family thingy. Pretty awesome right?!”
My heart was pounding, Bobby Lockwood, as in THE, Bobby Lockwood. WOW! I think I’m gonna die! Like actually fucking die, right here, right now!
I was in so much shock that I hadn’t noticed that he had made his way over to us. He grins down at me broadly.
“Hi Iris?I’m Bobby. Nice to meet you.”
