I wake up as soon as I hear running water. It's loud and continuous. Someone must be up. I look out the window. The sun isn't even up yet! I groan, and cover my head with the fluffy creme colored pillow.
When I can hear repetitive knocking... I mean pounding, on my door, I throw the pillow as hard as I can and roll out of bed.
I try to make a perfect landing with my feet first, but fail and fall to my knees. I brush the hair out of my eyes and stretch, planting one foot at a time steadily on the ground.
"HURRY UP!" I hear a yell outside the door. "What?!" I yell back, and slump my way over to the door, opening it with a shaky hand.
"Hurry up." Is all Kendall says, before turning on his heel swiftly and walking away.
I slam the door, and toss my backpack onto my bed, trying to find something to wear.
Once dressed in a tank top, and the same shorts from yesterday, I strut out of the room. My hair is still a mess, but WHO CARES?!
"What's up?" I sit down on the stool, facing Mr. Greene and Kendall. They're standing still, as still as statues. Their faces expressionless.
"We're leaving soon." Mr. Greene announces. "We can't leave." I shake my head. "This is the safest place we'll be able to find. We know nothing, and my family... I can't leave without them."
"We're gonna have to." Kendall places his hands on the granite, sliding them back and forth. "We can't. Don't you get it?! Have you two ever been in a situation like this?! Has there ever been flesh eating zombies coming after you, eating your friends and family?! We have to say. We know nothing, abseloutely nothing. We can stay here and learn. Do some research, until we know exactly what to do."
"You're right." Mr. Greene sighs. "Ha!" I yell.
I'm always right.
"But you said yourself it isn't safe here!" Kendall whines. "Oh be quiet." I snap. "We'll go for a supply run today. That should keep us with enough food and water for about... 2 weeks." Mr. Greene stares off into space, thinking hard.
"So does that mean we can stay?" I ask. "It means we can stay." I jump up and down at Mr. Greene's words. "YAY!!!" This is a great place to stay safe. No one knows where it is, it's hidden, and it has a BED.
"Kendall, if it makes you feel any better, you can sleep in the bed and I'll have the couch." I pout. He scoffs, and walks away. "Moody Pants." I cough. "There's no need to call eachother names, we're on the same team." Mr. Greene puts a hand on my shoulder.
"Diva." Kendall spits back. "You just have to have to last word don't you?" I ask.
"Maybe you do." He grabs his backpack, and walks past me, his shoulder ramming into mine, as he walks out the back door.
"What the heck?" I turn to Mr. Greene, holding my throbbing shoulder. "Let him blow off some steam. I don't know what's going on." I scoff, and turn to the hall. "Take a shower, you need one. We'll be outside." Mr. Greene says calmly.
Is that suppose to be offensive or....?
I shrug, and head to the small bathroom at the end of the hall.
Careful about not wasting water, I quickly turn on the water and pull off my clothes, hurrying to hop in.
I look like a wet rat. DID HE WANT TO SABATOUSE ME?!?!
I groan, and slip on my socks and shoes, carefully. Do you know how hard it is to put socks on when your feet are damp?
"Kendall?" I call, once my feet hit the grass outside of the house. "Mr. Greene?"
"Over here!" Mr. Greene yells. I watch his hands wave in the air, by a small cluster of trees.
I sprint over to them. "Isn't that dangerous?" \
"Sleeping's now considered dangerous. What's it going to hurt?" Kendall asks. God, he must've over dosed on 'moody medicine' today.
"We're making a path." Mr. Greene says. "Why...?" I ask, quirking an eyebrow. "We might need an emegency exit. You never know." Kendall shrugs. I nod, and start to follow Mr. Greene and Kendall, stomping a path that loops around the hill where the house sits.
"You two continue," Mr. Greene stops, and wipes his face with a rag, "I'm gonna go up and fix a little something to eat." I nod, and continue stomping.
"Are you okay?" I finally break the awkward silence, trying to figure out Kendall's mood swings. "I'm as fine as I'll be in a zombie apocalypse, if that's what you mean."
I shrug. "You know what I mean. Are you okay?" "I'm fine. Stay out of my business." Kendall hisses. "Sorry." I roll my eyes.
"Just trying to make you not hate me." I mumble. "Well it's going to take a lot." Kendall spits. I stop stomping down the grass, extremely hurt by his words.
"You... You hate me?" I stammer, my breath quickening. "Don't take it like that." Kendall says, not turning around. "HOW AM I SUPPOSE TO TAKE IT? YOU JUST SAID YOU HATED ME!!" I can feel my face turn red, my eyes stinging, hot tears brimming my eyes. I try to blink them back, I can't look weak.
"Keep your voice down." Kendall instructs. "You can finish this by yourself. I'm done trying." I turn around and start walking back up the path.
"Done trying what?" Kendall calls.
"Done trying to befriend you."
