I woke up at around 5:37am. I groaned and sat up. I walked over to my closet, but as I passed my window I seen the motorcycle wasn't in the driveway. I ran downstairs and grabbed my dad's keys. I drove to our spot blowing up his phone.
I pulled up next to his motorcycle. I ran over him. My heart dropped into my chest when I saw him. He was lying half naked with Brittany. I stood over them tears rolling out of my eyes.
I wiped my eyes and shook them awake. I threw their clothes at them and told them to get dressed. "What time is it?" Ty asked, sliding his shirt over his rock hard ABS.
"Almost 6"
The girl ran to the parking lot across the street, hopped in her car and pulled off. "Call me!" she yelled as she drove by.
His wide eyed smile faded away when he saw my face. "You good?" he inquired. "Yeah, I told your mom you spent the night at my house. But when you get home, you need to take a shower." I said playfully covering my nose.
He laughed and wrapped his arm around me. "I brought my dad's pickup truck so you can put the bike in the back." I said approaching the car.
I pulled up in my driveway and helped him get the bike off the back. After we got dressed we drank coffee and ate McDonalds breakfast sandwiches.
"So what did you do last night?"
"Oh, it was awesome! Well, after you left, we moved the bonfire pit to our spot. Then we made s'mores. She dared me to jump into the lake so when I did I acted like I was drowning. Then when she jumped in to save me I pulled her under. Then after a while of swimming around in the freezing cold water we warmed up by the fire. We kissed for a while then... You know"
"you had sex on our spot?!?!" I screamed jumping down. "Maya wait!" he screamed after me. I slammed the door in his face and ran upstairs.
"Hey imma drive your truck to school today." I said, walking into my dad's room.
"You're not riding with Ty?" he said, throwing me the keys which I snuck back into his room when we got home.
"Nope"
"May I ask why"
"Nope"
I got to school 15 minutes early so Ty can't catch me at my locker. I waited in my first period class until the bell rung. Ty sat in the seat next to me and since all the seats were filled I couldn't move.
I pretended to pay attention and do my work so he won't be tempted to talk to me. He knows how I hate being distracted from my work.
The bell rang and I made sure I was the first person out of the class. I sped walked to my next class, Ty ran after me. "Wait up!" he yelled after me. "Stop following me your class is on the other side of the school." I said walking faster.
"Maya I'm sorry"
I turned into my class just as the late bell rang. I was determined to avoid him for the rest of the day.
When lunch time came I went out to look for a job. I normally wouldn't get one because I hate being told what to do. But with raven gone and me avoiding Ty I needed something to keep me occupied. I went to five different shops and nothing. I had one more stop before I had to get back to school. It was a cozy little coffee house around the corner of my house where I would go when I was sad but didn't want to talk. I don't think Ty knows about this place which make it perfect.
"So Ms. Witmore have you ever waitressed before?"
"Um, not really, but I helped cater at an internship with Le Bilboquet and I've been here plenty of times so I know where everything goes and how to take orders things like that."
"How soon can you start?" he asked with an impressed look in his eyes. I almost jumped out of my seat and hugged him, but I contained myself. "As soon as you need me." I beamed. "Can you come after school for your training?" he requested. I nodded as I shook his hand.
My first job! I HAVE to tell Ty! Wait. I can't I'm still mad at him. Damn, I hate him so much but sadly I love him more. Even if I wasn't mad at him I couldn't tell him about this place. This was my safe place I can't have the one thing that can kill me in it. I just can't.
After school, I dropped my dads truck at home. "Where are you going?" he asked as I made my way to the front door. "Work." I sang happily. "Work?" he laughed, "since when do you work?" "today I have training and I can't be late." I replied annoyed and slightly offended. "Wait ill drive you I have to see this." he sounded proud as he grabbed his keys off the coffee table.
It was a two minute drive and I was five minutes early seeing I thought I was going to be walking. I sat in the car and ate a brownie I had left in the truck when I dropped it off. Three minutes passed and I thought I'd go in so he'd know I was there. I clocked in then went to the office door, I was interviewed in. I softly knocked on the door. "Ah, Maya glad you're on time. You'll be training with Beth
." He stated pointing at a girl about my age. She had long blonde hair with baby blue highlights which made her skin look more pink.
She showed me how to properly take orders, tell the difference between decaf and regular coffee. She showed me where everything goes and how to use everything. "So now that you know everything you're ready to get to work." she handed me a small notepad and a pen.
I walked over to the couch where my dad was sitting reading a newspaper. "Hello sir, can I get you anything." I said in my fakest an sweetest voice. He laughed until tears came out of his eyes. "Sweetie its me you don't have to do that fake sweet crap, but yeah get me a coffee with two sugars and a creamer." he said catching his breath. "What kind of creamer?" I asked talking normally. "Hazelnut. Thank you."
I took his order to the man standing at the counter. He looked at the order, then at me. "You misspelled hazelnut. Its a z not a s." he teased. I rolled my eyes and went to give my dad his coffee.
It was closing time and my dad had a date to get to. "You need a ride?" Beth asked as I wiped down all the tables. It was only 9 but it was already dark out and I didn't feel like walking in the rain. "Sure, just let me finish up here and ill meet you out front." she sat on the couch and got on her phone.
The door chimed as someone opened the door. I turned to Ty dripping wet standing in front of the door.
There was a killer in my safe place and I was about to die.
"We're closed" I said without any emotions. "I didn't come here for coffee, I came for you." he confessed. Beth looked at me. I gave her a look that said "its ok" she went to the back room to pretend not to hear.
"Raven told me you'd be here. I wanted to say I was sorry. I know I was wrong to even bring her to our spot. I now see that everything I did that night was stupid and a big mistake. I don't want to lose you Maya you're my best friend"
His words stung me. I wanted to forgive him. My heart said "you love him dummy forgive him and get your best friend back." then my head would kick my heart and say "just to get your heart broken? Hell no! Let him go the best way to move on is my not putting yourself in a situation like this again. After you move or maybe you-all can become friends again, but for right now he's just your neighbor whom you go to school with."
I had to listen to my head. She was right, I have to move on I messed up another friendship with my dumb unwanted feelings.
"It's too late to say sorry. You need to leave."
"I won't ever stop trying to get you to forgive me."
