Chapter Four
"We're goddamned."
I half-whispered, not necessarily want to be heard by the other students passing by behind us. My girls and I were staring straight on the bulletin board reading the notice on the board with wide eyes.
QUALIFIED FOR MISS DANVILLE HIGH
-PATTY SAMSON
-SHIRLEY MCJOY
-NANCY DEWITT
-JESSICA HOCKLEY
-MARGARETTE WILLIS
-GEORGIA BLYTHE
I know it's just nomination but, who the hell nominated us? Who would dare? If this was a prank, well it's not a good one.
Even if we know we don't have the chance to be the Miss Danville, not that we wanted too though, but students will look at you and all of a sudden notice your existence that never occurred before. They'll be judging our every single move.
As for me and Enn, we both hate to be the center of attraction, or at least noticed by anyone. For Jay, it's all just a game. Win or lose.
"It'll be fine for me if Venn already enrolled here. I mean at least I have my own choice of an escort." Jay said. See? It's no big deal for her.
"Wait, they're going to enroll here? Who said that?" Enn asked.
"It's what Venn told me. He and his brothers saved enough money to send them back to school. I can't imagine their hardship just to support themselves. No parents? Who could survive that?" Jay answered.
"They did. They even have their own house and car when all they do for a living is bus tables at Town's Foodville. " I said. Or suspected mostly.
We marched all the way to Biology and Oh Hail, Margarette—chewing bubblegum with a phone in hand—Enn's bio partner and our best enemy is present.
Too bad she can't read the poster on the board NO CELLPHONES ALLOWED DURING CLASS HOURS. She looked up at us and gave her best of an evil smile.
"Good luck, Enn. Your bio partner rose from the dead." I mocked.
For a month of peace and quiet because of Margarette's absence, Enn said she's lucky that she can freely do bio activities alone rather than do it with someone who doesn't know how to do anything but say "Ew" and "That's disgusting".
"Miss me?" Margie asked wickedly.
"No." Enn answered back coldly.
"I miss you a bunch Enn!"
"You're a good liar."
Then this is war. I'm fortunate I got paired with Jay so we both could work together simultaneously compared to Enn who probably is crying her heart out behind us.
Biology class is done, so we proceeded to Geography. By this time, Margarette is nowhere to be found. It's an everyday routine that we lost track of Margie when it's Geography, probably cutting classes because she's too dumb for the subject. He he, harsh.
Few more hours passed and we forgot lunch since we're busy doing a lot of paperwork and researches. Suddenly, Joe texted Enn:
JOE <3
YOU MISSED LUNCH :'( MEET US AFTER CLASS. U THREE. XX
SENT: 12:55 noon
Enn's eyes enlightened and told us what Joe texted. The boys knew we missed lunch because we're busy so when the classes were all done by three p.m. we met the three guys outside the school's premises.
