Chapter Eighteen: Something's Not Right.

Nyancat impatiently tapped her pencil in a rhythm across the desk. She quickly glanced over at Jonathan who- surprisingly did not seem bothered. Hm. That's weird, she thought to herself, Sock would be giving Jonathan a free pass to the office by now. The teacher continuously recited the boring lecture. "Please take down the following notes," the teacher said, looking down at his paper.  Nyancat took out her notebook. She looked at all the little scribbles of "S + N" surrounded by a very well-drawn heart;
she knew what it all meant. But to her- something did not feel right... She felt as if a hungry animal were to pounce on her at any given moment- even so in the safety of her classroom.
Wow, you sure do look stressed out, kid, an unearthly voice boomed.
Nyancat was confused- she looked around her, but couldn't find where the voice was coming from.
I'm in your head, it said, mocking her shortly after with a chuckle.
Who are you? she questioned in the silence of her mind. Everything around her slowly shifted to darkness- until it was totally dark. Nyancat instantly raced into panic; she thought she was either fainting or dying.
Relax kid, it's only an illusion.
Nyancat looked around- everything was dark! It was impossible to see anything!
"Am I dead?" she asked, a little frightened.
"Uh- yes and no," a devilish figure said, lighting a green-colored flame, "you're just in a deep sleep."
"In the middle of class!?"
"Psh! What's the matter? You're gonna wake up in a hospital bed all pampered up- I thought you'd like that."
Nyancat became a little frustrated with this person.
"You still didn't answer my question," she pointed out. Nyancat quickly regretted saying that after she felt that she was being creepily watched. The figure approached her at lightning speed and took her by surprise.
"The name's Mephistopheles," he said, greeting her with a wide grin. Nyancat tried to recover from the sudden introduction- she continuously breathed hard.

Meanwhile, Jonathan was writing down some notes from the teacher until he realized that Nyancat's eyes were missing from their sockets.
"What the hell?!" he muttered under his breath. Jonathan hit himself in the head to make sure he wasn't seeing things. He took a closer look... But he saw that she disappeared from her seat. He was shocked when he realized that Nyancat was behind him, grinning creepily.
"Nyancat what are you-"
Nyancat immediately displayed her eyeless face- and left Jonathan in shock before he could finish his question.
"What happened to you?!" Jonathan asked. She put a finger to her lips and mouthed, "Shh."
"Jonathan, who are you talking to?" the teacher asked aloud. Everyone whipped their heads to face Jonathan.
"Uh- no one! I uh- need to use the restroom," Jonathan said, sprinting to the men's room. He instantly ran in the restroom and looked for the nearest vacant stall; he locked himself inside- breathing heavily. Thoughts raced through his head. Why was Nyancat all creepy-looking?! How did she get out of her seat without the teacher even noticing!?
Jonathan had a hard time catching his breath. Wait. Stop. He heard footsteps. Oh no, not now! Jonathan thought.
A very familiar voice called out. "Johnny boy, are you here?" she asked, grinning. She started to laugh freakishly. Jonathan looked around- he was a little freaked out by her scary appeal. Once again, he was taken by surprise when she appeared behind him, even with the stall locked.
"Hello," she said, turning her head to the side.
"How the hell did you get in here!?"
Nyancat just responded with a very long and odd laughing session.
Jonathan rubbed his temples and thought. He grabbed Nyancat by the shoulders and shook her violently.
"Snap out of it! Whatever that is!"
Nyancat stopped laughing and started to make a very wide frown. She then took her fingers, dug it into Jonathan's skin- and pushed off his grip on her.
"Help me," she said, staring deep into the iris of his eyes. By now, Jonathan was really shocked by what she did.
"You're insane!"
"Help me."
