~Sarah's POV~
"-at least 1000 words long. I want your short stories submitted by the end of the week, alright? If you all do well I'll give you guys an extended break on Monday," John says. Then the bell rings and we all stand up to head to lunch. John signals he wants to talk to me so I lag behind the rest. Hopefully this will be quick so the gang won't notice I'm gone.
"Yeah, John?" I say.
"Sarah, I noticed your behavior yesterday. Are you alright?" he asks, then shakes his head. "Oh, what am I saying? If I've learned anything from my past years of teaching, it's that most of the time students won't come to the teachers to confide in them," he chuckles bitterly. He then adds "I'm just gonna guess; Nathan told you that he's moving away for college?" What? How did he know?
"How did you know?" I ask, saying my thoughts.
"He told me when he found out. Asked me if he should tell you. I told him he should, but that's not the only thing I said he should tell you..." he says, looking at me over his eyeglasses. What is he talking about?
"Tell me-" I start, then I was interrupted by Nathan's voice. Wow, selective hearing much? Shut up. "Sorry John, my friends are waiting," I say. He just nods and I head over to them.
"Where were you?" Nathan asked. I look away from him, knowing that I won't be able to focus if I look at his handsome - uh, face.
"I just asked a few questions about the assignment," I lie smoothly. Cass raises her eyebrow at me but says nothing.
"Hey! If you were gonna ask questions you shoulda told me! I had some questions too," Oliver says, adorkable as ever.
"Oh, don't worry man. What were you gonna ask?" Mike says, ruffling Oli's hair.
"Nothing..." he says, blushing a bit. He then fixes his hair.
"Ooooh, was Oli over here gonna write something scandalous?" Mike teases.
"W-what, no! Nothing scandalous!" He says. "I was just gonna ask if I can make fanfiction..." he mutters. We head to the canteen, just talking and poking eachother.
"So, Nathan. What are we gonna do at your house this time?" Mike asks when we get our food and sit down.
"I was thinking of cooking or baking or something," Nate replies.
"Cookies!" I say. Hey, don't judge. I love cookies okay? If you don't... well, I don't know how you live. Nate chuckles.
"Alright, cookies it is," he laughs. Nathan is the only guy who can bake cookies and still look- YEAH OK LETS NOT CONTINUE THAT. But I can imagine what can happen. We'll have one of those cheesy flour fights when everyone leaves, and then one of us will fall over on the other and- stop stop stop stop stop stop.
"Hey, guys, if you could have one special thing about you what would it be? Like wings, or fire breathing, stuff like that," Oliver says, thankfully distracting me.
"What manga or anime are you reading or watching this time?" Cass says.
"I'm reading Boku No Hero Academia," he says looking a bit shy.
"Well, if we're talking powers I wanna be able to lift anything with one finger," Mike says.
"I wanna be able to do whatever without consequences, but the thrill of getting caught will still be there," Cass says. I look at her weirdly. "Hey, if I can have anything, might as well make it so I can do anything."
"That's not really a power but okay..." Oliver says.
"I want to have the power to have any power that comes to mind," Nathan says.
