While the events at the Boundary Forest were things that would eventually lead the entire world down strange paths, many more things were happening in the enormous world of Ralia. Some would lead one through amazing adventures, others would challenge one's abilities against ridiculously over-powered monstrosities, and others would be absolutely pointless and serve no purpose but to amuse anyone that happened to be watching.
Marilyn hoped that she was onto something amazing. Things in her life outside of the game had been stressful lately, and the fun times that she would have in the world of Ralia seemed to be decreasing day-by-day. As a 28 year old office worker, things could get more than a little stressful and dreary.
There just wasn't much that she could do with her current class. Somehow, every time that she would come across something amazing and game-changing for her, it would turn all turn out completely wrong. When she first started, she'd appeared at one of the biggest cities in the Human Kingdom of Glaceria.
She'd chosen that particular Kingdom because it was bordering the Werebeast Nations, specifically the States of Flyte. Kingdoms that bordered the other major races' nations had a higher chance for the users to be involved in something big. Back on Earth, the United Nations, which was the biggest place to be involved in international affairs, was also one of the best places to be if you wanted to help decide the direction the world would take (or at least get a front-row seat to the action). That was when it was only between different nations. When it came down to inter-species/inter-racial affairs, you could bet that it could only get even bigger and more complex than it ever could in the U.N.
Although she couldn't do much back on Earth to be involved in something like the United Nations, at least here on Ralia she could be part of something bigger. Something life-changing that would mean something. Or so she thought.
After 4 months of playing, she still hadn't managed to set out on an adventure outside of the city she'd originally started out in as a beginner. In fact, the farthest she'd ever gone were the hunting grounds nearby the city. Before she died and had been resurrected at the "Last Memory" (the inn where she stayed inside the city) 10 hours later RT (Ralia-Time).
She'd never tried to go outside the city gates again after that.
Every single thing after she'd revived that could have gone wrong, did go wrong. Immediately after she resurrected, she'd tried to go to the public training hall to learn how to swing a sword better. Everything was for her big dream of doing something that would change the world, and at that time she could just picture herself slaying monsters left and right, saving city after city, conquering dungeon after dungeon, with only a sword in hand. She would be a powerful swordswoman that stood between the monsters and the rest of the world, in gleaming armor with her long brown hair flowing in the wind.
The Instructor kicked her out of the training hall after 30 minutes.
How was she supposed to know that she was using the wrong end of the wooden sword to try to hit the wooden dummy? Wasn't the fact that she couldn't hit the target with the sword for the entire half-hour, more reason that they needed to train her? Everyone else said that the dummy had been standing still, rooted to the ground. She knew though, she knew that the dummy had been dodging every single one of her hits. What other explanation was there for the fact that she hadn't been able to hit it even once during the whole time that she was there?
After she'd been kicked out of the public training hall, she'd tried her hand at magic. That was always a fun way to go in games, she'd reasoned. Envisioning herself as the Grand Magister, she would decimate armies, conjure up enormous storms that would alter the very fate of a war with just a wave of her hand, and summon magnificent and exotic beasts that would travel with her to every corner of the world. With a single word, she would be able to usher in peace between all of the races, and protect them all from the onslaught of the monsters from other dimensions with her trusty staff at her side, her robe flowing in the wind, and a cowl obscuring her face so that she could be even more mysterious. With all of that in mind, she'd gone to the Little Magi's Public School for Magic in high spirits. After all, she was a player so it was practically guaranteed that she'd be able to do any kind of magic that she put her mind to.
