Okay wow, haven't updated this in ten years, let's see what I can add to this mess.
Okay, so there's one topic I think that is important right now, for me.
That topic is transgenderism, nonbinary individuals, and sexualities that encompass more than one gender.
Wattpad loves it's stereotypes, I know this, I really do. But stereotypes hurt people.
So let's talk about trans* and nonbinary first since that hits home the hardest. Nonbinaryism is where you aren't mentally female, or male, and you're somewhere on a spectrum outside the binary. Some people are agender, some people are genderfluid, and some people are demi-genders (demi-girl, demi-boy). If you are nonbinary, you are trans*. There's no ifs, ands or buts. You also need dysphoria to be trans*, but that's a topic for another journal.
My biggest problem here is representation. There is so much more to the LGBTQIA+ (A for ASEXUAL, because fuck the acephobes, baby) than two guys who fit into the stupid, hetero-based roles of Seme and Uke (I gag every time I see those words) and look pretty. Write about lesbians, write about a young girl trapped in a male's body and facing the wrath of a conservative household OR write abut her family's acceptance and love and helpfulness. Write about nonbinary individuals, who can't get their bodies fixed, and are left in an inescapable world of dysphoria.
However, why write those stories if you're just gonna put stereotypes all over your story. A Trans person isn't just someone who's homosexual and wants to become straight, and none of this is a phase.
No trans* person is the same, everyone experiences their dysphoria in different ways. Not all of us are super depressed and edgy, and obsessed with our "aesthetics" and not all of us are the "sjws" you're obsessed with naming us as.
My point is, the desire for representation and the level of quality on this site, they just-
Wow what am I even saying, haha. Let's try that one again.
I want trans* and nonbinary people to be represented well on this site, but this site is so notorious for having bad quality fiction (it's even worse than ff.net and that's an achievement if I've ever seen one) and plenty of stereotypes.
Most people either don't want to write characters like that, and the ones that do generally fall into the pitfall of stereotypes.
haha okay, I'm really tired now and just babbling so here's what to take home from this:
-Write gay men in a not hetero-based way, or I will cry
-Write more Trans* People and Nonbinary People but don't use Stereotypes
-Write more Lesbians, I love lesbians, they're all so amazing why do you guys hate these lovebirds
-Do your research and don't take advice from just one source. This is generally how you should do ANY RESEARCH (Wink wonk, a hint for doing well on essays and all, get plenty of sources), so don't just get research from one tumblr blog or one wiki. Expand your horizons and broad search
-Okay this has nothing to do with anything, but man, I wish there was some good Speed Racer fanfiction in which it was NOT only Speed getting diddled for fucking ever. Can he just have some romantic interactions with his hella boyfriend? Is that too much to ask for? The poor boy has been through enough, and you're telling me his masked boyfriend doesn't want to treat him and make sure he feels really comfortable and happy with his life, his body, his sexuality? Are you telling me my beautiful son isn't allowed to be happy and relaxed? Soothed? Treated like he should be? Don't make Speed the sex slave of the relationship, please. Make him the appreciated boyfriend he deserves to be.
(okay fuck that was long)
Anyway, do your research kids, and write a happy relationship for Speed instead of all this shitty sex. Also, no Trixie please, because I really don't want to see Trixie keep getting hurt by someone who really doesn't want her to smother him. KAY FUCK, NO MORE SPEED RACER DAMNIT
See ya guys
