Beep! Beep! Beep! I open my eyes slowly and groggily. I stretch and give a loud lion's yawn, hopping out of bed. The moment the blanket disconnects with my body, a cold chill runs through me. I yawn and stretch again, then open my door to see if aunt Kate is up yet. And it seems either aunt Kate is up, or someone broke into our house and made the most mouth watering breakfast ever, because the halls are filled with a warm, sweet, smell.

I practically float downstairs to the kitchen, driven by the smells in the air. When I get to the kitchen, I find the source of my delight.

Spread out on the table before me is a banquet of breakfast like I've never seen before. A variety of eggs, bacon, sausage, juice, muffins, and fresh pancakes line the table.

I step forward my mouth open in awe. I've never seen this much food, even in our family of three on thanksgiving.

I stare at the table until I feel a tap on my shoulder. turning around I find myself face to face with a beaming  aunt Kate.

I stare at her, point a finger to the food, then raise an eyebrow as if to ask if she did this, which is pretty dumb because well, who else could have cooked. but she nods and smiles regardless. then she takes a few steps back, spread her arms out wide, and says, "Welcome miss Mary-Katherine Goreman to day one of intro to Ames! First things first let's gather some energy for exploration with the most important meal of the day, breakfast!"

By the time breakfast is over I feel almost like that girl in Willy Wonka who blew up because she at that magic bubble gum.

Almost.

I don't know if aunt Kate is deliberately trying to stuff me like a thanksgiving turkey or is just happy I'm here and wants to impress me with her cooking (and baking) skills.

Cause let me tell ya I'm impressed.

I feel like every time I eat a meal with aunt Kate, I have to keep her from putting more on my plate. Lord knows once it's on your plate consider it eaten.

But I try my best to avoid aunt Kate after I've eaten my fair share but she always finds a way to give me more. shed smile brightly and tell me to just try it that I'd love it (which I always do but that's not the point)

"Aunt Kate" I say breathlessly after another serving of eggs, "shouldn't we go out and explore like you said?"

Her smile fades a bit as she silently consults to herself.

"Oh yeah I almost forgot kiddo" she says, "meet me down here in about 10 minutes or so, then we can head out."

"OK," I say relieved

"But um before you go..." Aunt Kate says reaching for a chocolate chip muffin.

I race upstairs before she can force another bite on me.
