Recap
"I think I should drive, are you even up for driving" Anthony asked concern lacing his voice.
As I look over at him and see his forehead creased with worry and marked with sweat I realized I loved this man.
"Yes I'm good" I said stoically" the revelation of love frightening me. As I press on the gas, tailing it out of the parking lot, I condition my mind in preparation of whats to come.
......................................................Anthony
Though the enormity of the situation is great, I can't help feeling proud of my mate. Cat's determination and strength of character, shows me that she is meant for greatness and is the perfect match to rule with me. Added bonus she looked killer hot beating that witches ass before. I was going to intervene, but the way she handled herself made me proud and horny at the same time. As I smile to myself, my mind shifts to the fact of Sandra being a witch all this time and my good mood fades. Normally my sense of smell is so acute, but I missed the ball completely this time. This girl is either powerful or works for someone who is, either way she needs to be stopped at any cost. The question I keep pondering is why Cat?
Why?
Why was Cat targeted, was she always a target or a way to get to someone?
As the car jerks forward, I am dragged from my musing. My head turns to see Cat pulling over on the side of the road.
As I look around I see that we have entered a rather posh and gated community. The ones with immaculately cut lawns and Victorian styled homes, seeped with years of history in their walls.
"This is where you live?" I asked.
"Yes" She replied, turning to look at me as she answers. " Whats wrong?" she asks.
"Nothing babe, since I met you I've always see you growing up in a small family oriented home. A small or medium sized place in the country, with a laid back vibe and love always around you. My experience with families with money, is that things aren't always what they seem" I explained.
"Oh" she smiles, " I get what you mean I saw a lot of that while growing up. The interpretation that you have life easy and perfect when you have money, is so far away from the truth its in its own realm. I've seen friends run a way or commit suicide, because the problems they had couldn't be solved using money. I have lost really good people in my life, because of perceptions, that why I am thankful my parents did all they could to allow me to live as normal a life as possible; in a world that was far from it." she replied.
"I can see your parents did a good job and I won't ask you to talk about your friends till your ready, but which one of theses home's is yours", I ask walking around the car.
"Oh my home is three houses down at the end of the block, Maryland Heights Is a massive community easy to get lost in" She said motioning me to walk behind her down the road. "Plus I think its best we don't give away our location in case Sandy is here, like a surprise attack" she says giggling.
I can tell she is nervous.
"Thank you Anthony for everything" Cat called out to me grabbing my hand, lips qiverring and eyes filling with what seems like tears, as she turns away from me.
"You never need to feel weak with me or ashamed to cry. Tears don't make you weak it shows your strong enough to let things go sometimes. You've been through so much in the space of a couple hours. Let's just focus on your mom and getting her safe, ok" I say as she wipes her eyes, squaring her shoulders.
"Your right let's go" she replies voice getting stern.
As we round the corner she motions me through a large board gate, at the side of a house I'm assuming is hers. As she rounds the side of the house nothing seems out of place everything seems quiet. She bends down feeling below a flower pot and comes up with a key. As she goes to opens the back door, however, it opens without the use of it. We enter to a completely dark room. The mood of the house is still no movements emits from any crevice of the abode. My sense are in full gear, because no home is this silent.
"This is strange, why the f%*k is the door open and mom always leaves the kitchen light on" my mate whispers, the fright in her voice causing the sound to come out shrill and scratchy.
As we go further into the home, I push her behind me. Our breathing the only sound in the house. As we round the corner of the kitchen to head out to the foyer, we hear a shuffling coming from the back; further pass where we were just coming from. I can feel Cat tense as I take her hand, as we turn around to find out the source of the sound. The closer we get to the back room the more the sounds seem to be coming from below.
"Do you have a basement?" I asked
"Yes" She whispers.
As she shows me where to find the door, the adrenaline in my blood starting to pump, my wolf enjoying the hunt. The more we draw closer to the basement, the more my mate's pulse starts to beat fast. The beat of her heart was so rapid I was afraid she would pass out.
"Get out witch! leave this place" an unknown voice ordered.
"Shut up Marielle!" a voice answered. You think you can keep her from me.
"Leave you foul thing, your presence is not welcomed here. I have no idea how you fooled me for so long, but you will never have her" the voice spoke, the strength from her tone filled with power washes over me like a violent tide coming in.
"Mother....." I hear cat say quizzically.
"Ah we have company now do we, show yourself Catherine I know your there" the voice chuckles.
I could feel the shivers run down her body, her pulse quicken and breathing escalate, however, as brave as she is she stepped out at the same time her mom shouted;
"Run!!!"
