ι waтcнed aѕ тнe ѕwan danced
In the water, moving gracefully,
Gliding in the miniature waves.
Something touched my shoulder and
I turned to see a beautiful blue bird
Standing on my bone, whistling a
Tune that I haven't heard.
"That's quite a sight." Rose said, coming
Around the concrete wall and taking
A seat next to me on the mossy bench.
"However, this moss is going to ruin
Your brand new gown."
I shrugged. "Since when," I started holding
Up the violet lace. "Have I cared for gowns?"
Rose giggled and took my hand.
"It's not their fault." She whispered, looking
Me in my eyes.
"Who's fault?"
"Mother and Father's."
I squirmed and pulled my hand out of Rose's.
"You know very well that it's their decision and they realize they've made the wrong one.
But we can't move for a year.
This area is ours for a year. 365 days. 8760 hours. 525,600 minutes. We're stuck here!"
My anger bubbled and I stood, stomping away.
The swan thrashed about, obviously
Sensing my anger.
I had that way with the animals.
They felt what I felt.
The hurt, the pain, the confusion.
"We had to move, Layla!" Rose called. "We
Had no choice! They were coming to get you."
I turned and looked at her, hard.
"Who was coming to get me?"
Rose covered her mouth with her hands.
"Father didn't tell you, did he?"
I shook my head, now curious.
Who would be after me?
"I can't tell you." Rose told.
I stomped to her and put my hands on her
Shoulders. "Yes, yes you can."
Rose shook her head, letting tears come.
"Who was after me?" I pushed.
Rose shook her head again, grabbing my hand.
"Some men who wanted to hurt you, Layla. They wanted your beauty as their own. They wanted to take you and keep you. They wanted children. Beautiful children. And they knew you would be the one to bore them. They're still out there. Searching for you."
I shook my head and pushed her back. "Liar."
Rose nodded her head. "It's all true. Ask Father."
I nodded and turned.
If what Rose said was true, I wanted to get a whole lot farther from our old area than twenty seven miles.
