Glenn and Maggie show me to the guest room, where they inform me it will be my new room. It's plain, with beige walls and a twin sized bed. I didn't expect luxury, I didn't even expect the Alexandrian's to live in actual homes with running water and proper electricity.
"It's safe here, and easier. Life out there...outside the walls and the protection...it's....its hard. But your safe here." Maggie says, a reassuring smile plastered on to her face.
I look down at the floor.
"Everything falls. All the sanctuaries become ghost towns." I say, my heart weighing down.
Glenn and Maggie exchange worried glances, before Maggie comes over to me and puts a hand on my shoulder. She looks me in the eyes, and hesitantly opens her mouth, "I know it's scary. And...and I know being away from humanity can tear away at a person, can break or make a person, but...here, in Alexandria...you be okay again".

I break her gaze.

Okay again.

I toss my backpack onto the bed, and hold back tears and thoughts. Thoughts of bombs and explosions and boxcars and bullets through fathers skulls. Thoughts of sisters and mothers that I'll never see again.

Slowly Glenn and Maggie leave the room, concerned looks plastered in their eyes. They shut the door behind them, leaving me be. I stand in the same spot, facing the bed with my dirty backpack on top of it. I reach to the zipper and unzip the bag, slipping out my journal. I grab my own from the side pocket, intending to write something in it. Anything. Anything at all that will take my mind off of-

My eye catches something in the window and I toss down my journal and jump to the window. Two boys were fighting each other across the street. I wouldn't have paid it any mind, except- four walkers were behind them, creeping up on them unknown to them. I slip my knives into my pocket and swipe my gun from my bag.

I sprint out of my room, and scurry down the steps. "Sophia!" Maggie calls from the kitchen, seeing my run. Before I run out the door I hear her yelling to Glenn, "She's running away!" Maggie yelled. I sprint to the boys as one shoves the other down. The walker creeps closer to the boy with the long dark hair.
He looks up momentarily, seeing my sprinting towards him with a knife in my hand-

Not the best first impression.

The boy puts his arms out to try and attack me but I run around him, where the biter is only feet away from him. I hurl the knife into its head, where three other biters growl and beg for flesh. The first falls to the ground, and I retrieve my knife from its skull. The brown haired boy looks at me with confused.

"I...I saw you two through my window. And I saw the walkers that you didn't see." I say. He pulls out the gun from his holster, "I guess I should thank you" he says.

"Maybe after we kill the biters?" I say.

He cockily grins and nods his head, "Agreed".

The boy pulls the gun to his eye view, and shoots one down. "Not bad" I say.

I step toward one, and again I jam my knife into his brain, yanking the bloody tool out of its head before it falls to the ground. The boy laughs, and aims at the next. But before he can fire the other boy runs at him. "Watch out!" I yell for warning. The brown haired boy dodges the others attack, and throws him to the ground. Momentarily we forget about the biter as he pulls a gun on the blonde haired boy.
I finish off the biter with another knife to the skull, and stagger back. "He KILLED MY DAD!" The blonde screamed. "He had no choice, Ron!" The brown haired boy yelled. I assumed that the blonde was Ron.

I see Rick running towards everyone from across the street, looking furious. The brown haired boy kept the gun steadily pointed at Ron, his bright blue eyes set and finger firmly on the trigger.
"What the hell is going on!?" Rick shouted. "He blames you for everything. He tried to kill me." He said. Rick peered around the boy and at me.
"And Sophia? Why is she here?" Rick asked. The boy turned to me, confused. "Your name's Sophia?" He said, the same disappointed and distant look everyone gave me when I came into the gates before.
I scoffed. "Seriously, what's the deal with my name? Why does everyone look at me like an alien when they hear my name?" I say, frustrated. The brown haired boy laughed a bit, but turned back to Rick. "And what do we do about Ron? He's just as bad as his dad." He said. Rick looked flustered and tired, annoyed he even had to begin to deal with a situation like ours. Rick slipped his hand into his pocket and revealed a shiny pair of handcuffs.
"You guys have cops here? This really is like a civilization. A real community." I say, immediately regretting saying anything in such a tense moment.
Rick grabs Ron's hands and cuffs them behind his back. Ron has the look of pure spite and anger. His teeth clench together tightly as Rick keeps a hand on his cuffed hands and neck, walking him away. "Where is he taking Ron?" I ask the boy that's left.

"I have no damn idea. Maybe back to Jessie's house." He said. Who's Jessie? Who's this damn boy?
"One last question. Who are you?" I ask.

"An ass kicker, to be exact. Usually I'd be wearing a sheriffs hat, so the whole bad ass kid in the apocalypse vibe is being a bit thrown off without my proper attire." He says. I try to hold back my laughter but eventually some peeks out. "No, seriously. What's your name?" I ask
The kid laughs along with me. His smile is viral, captivating me and reeling me in.
"It's Carl" he says, still chuckling.
My breathe goes completely still. My lungs tighten and my eyes widen while my mouth hangs open.
"You're...you're...YOU'RE CARL?" I blurt.

"You know you're a bit hypocritical with the whole, 'Why do people always look at me like I'm an alien when they hear my name' kinda thing" he says. He looks baffled but my field of vision zooms in on his lips. My lips start to tingle as I remember his lips and how they danced on mine.
"Do you remember Terminus?" I eagerly blurt. Carl looks confused, frowning his eyebrows. "Do I remember Terminus?" He repeats. "How would you even know about Terminus?" He says, shocked.

"Carl..." I say, not able to keep my eyes off his eyes and lips. I run to him, stopping when we are only inches apart. "Sophia what are you doing?" He says with a harsh tone. I run my fingers across his jawline. I close my eyes, remembering the darkness of the boxcar. I put myself back in the moment, as my hand drags from his head to his chin. The sharp edge, the hair the tickled my fingers.
"The boxcar. At Terminus." He whispers, remembering. Remembering the bombs, the smoke, the blood, bullets and biters. But most importantly- the kiss.

He wraps his arm around me, his palm spread out on my back and pulling me in. I move my hand towards the back of his head.

"SOPHIA!" I hear Maggie's voice. I quickly push Carl off of me, as Maggie comes into view from behind a house. My cheeks burn and my legs feel like cooked noodles. I take another glance at Carl, "Oops".
