~•~•1 week later~•~•

I sit on the porch of some random house, scribbling in my journal. My tongue pokes through my mouth in concentration. Suddenly I hear the sound of a loud motor, echoing through the neighborhood.

I jump up in a panic, and shove my journal in my backpack. I practically dive under the porch as the sound gets closer and louder. I squeeze my backpack tight against my chest, waiting for the roar of the motor to pass the house. I close my eyes tight as the motor comes closer, and then slower. I start to panic as I peek my head out just a tiny bit, and realize someone has parked their motorcycle directly in front of the house. A man hops off the motorcycle, and I can't get a good look at his face. The only thing I can tell is that his hair covers his eyes, and he wears a jean jacket with angel wings on it. He swings a bag over his shoulder, and makes his way to the front door.

I hold my mouth shut as his feet climb the creaky stairs. The moment I hear the door shut, I throw my backpack over my arms, and I scramble out underneath, and start to sprint away. I run past his motorcycle, and then I freeze.

He left the keys in the ignition.

I've ridden dirt bikes before, and I'm sure this wouldn't be any different. I take a step closer to the bike. Whoever went inside, could be back soon, and I wouldn't want them to find me. For all I know they could be a serial killer. The next available place to hide would be across the street and in the bush of the house across from me. I take another step toward the bike.

But what if it was mine? Would I want someone stealing it? Then again it's the apocalypse, and you gotta do what you gotta do to survive.

That's when the door to the house swims open, giving me no time to run. Me and the mysterious man are at a stand still as we're both frozen in shock. Then, in one quick moment we're are both sprinting as fast as we can. I take off running down the street, having there be no other way. "Wait!" He calls after me, sprinting toward me too. I hear his steps gaining on me, quicker and quicker.

I could either keep running, but he'd catch me and probably tackle me to the ground which would hurt like holy hell. I slow down, and eventually get to a halt. I put my hands above my head, and turn around to face him. "Please, just let me go." I say.

"Hey, hey, hey. I ain't gonna hurt you. There's a safe place up the road a bit further, I can take you there." He says. I stare at him in confusion, and lower my arms to my side. "Who are you?" I ask.

The man raises his arms in the air, "My name's Daryl Dixon. I'm supposed to help people, take them to safety. Up the road a bit further is a place called Alexandria, there's survivors, safety, food, water." He says. His eyes are shaken. I slide my hand into my knife pocket. How am I supposed to tell if he's lying? "I...." I start to say, "I don't know...." I say with big eyes. "It's a home." He says, and the words strike me deep. Home.

Home.

"How would I... get there?" I ask. He takes a step back of relief. "Since it's only you... we could take my motorcycle." He says. It's a risk, a big one. He could be leading me to a cannibalistic murder house. But he could also be leading me to a home. A functioning home. I slowly straddle the motorcycle seat. He smiles,"Good decision kid" He says. He sits in front of me, and revs up the engine. I can't believe what I am doing. Have I not yet learned to never trust strangers? But he's different than the others, and the terminus people, he has a struggle in his eyes.

I wrap my arms around him and soon the motorcycle is riding, my hair flying behind me. My backpack bounces on my back, thumping every bump we hit. We pass biters, and empty homes, dead fields and bloody pools. I bury my head into his angel wing jacket. I don't know if it was the cold wind in my face, allergens in the air, or maybe the thought of actual safety, but a tear rolled down my cheek.
