Ashley's POV
I woke up at 6:00 am the next day and started to get ready for school. I stripped out of my sleeping clothes and started to cover up all the newly formed bruises from last night's events. I have had a lot of practice with hiding everything from the world. When I was sure that everything was covered, I started to get dressed. I wore a pair of dark blue skinny jeans, a white short sleeve t-shirt with an anchor in the middle and a hoodie. I did my facial routine and fixed my rats nest of hair into waves. I put in silver anchor earrings and a sterling silver anchor necklace. After that, I ate a little bit of food before I grabbed my school bag and rushed out the door to catch the bus to school. I had closed the door behind me and walked down to the edge of my driveway, when suddenly I noticed that a moving truck was parked at a house right across the street from my house. 'Huh, new neighbors.' I thought.
Then from the house, their front door opened and a boy stepped out. He had chocolate brown hair and what I think were dark brown eyes. His jaw bone was chiseled and when he turned away from the door, he saw me and smiled a bright award winning smile. I suddenly felt my breath hitch in my throat and butterflies fluttered around my stomach. My cheeks turned a lighter shade of pink and I turned to keep walking. Was he my new neighbor? Was he going to the same school as me?
So many questions raced through my mind at once. I got to the bus stop and the boy across the street walked over and stood next to the pole that was the bus stop. I just kept on looking forward not acknowledging his presence. I could feel his gaze on me. I shifted the weight on my feet in discomfort. 'Why did he keep on looking at me?' I thought.
Shawn's POV:
I wasn't so excited to be going to a new school today, but I went out the door anyway. I closed it behind me and turned around, that is when I saw a girl across the street looking at the moving van in my new driveway, and her gaze lowered down to me. I smiled at her. And when I studied her features more closely, I could see that she looked stunning. She was probably one of the most beautiful girls I've ever laid my eyes on. She stood there for a few more seconds before turning and walking up the street, and I secretly prayed in my head that she was going to the same destination as me. My prayers were suddenly answered when she stopped at the bus stop. I soon crossed over and stood next to the pole not saying a word. After all, what could I say? I probably couldn't get one word out without looking like an idiot.
I let my gaze lower to her form, if I had to guess, she was about 5'6". She was beautiful. Honey brown hair, milk chocolate brown eyes, pale skin. She was perfect, and I couldn't keep my eyes off of her, I didn't even know her name. She had no clue who I was earlier.
Ashley's POV:
Finally, after a good 10 minutes of awkward silence, the school bus pulled up to our stop. When the doors opened to let us on and I ran up the steps and swiftly moved to the very back and sat down. I then took out my phone and earbuds and played my "favorite's" playlist. I closed my eyes and listened to one of my newer favorite songs called, "Down by Jason Walker." I absentmindedly started to hum along with it. Music has always been my escape from the real world. It met me on an emotional level. I had always loved singing. My dad hated it however. So I made sure to not do it while he was around.
The bus pulled up to the school and we all got off, I was out first, determined to not be late to my first period, AP Engligh. It was one of my favorite classes. I loved reading books, my favorite genre was mostly action adventure and comedy's. They were fun to read and they lightened my mood. I was mostly a straight A student but when I got a B or lower my dad would become upset with me and I tried to avoid that as much as possible.
I sat down at my table and dug though my boos bag and fished out my Engligh binder that was full of notes, HW, and class work. Right now we were reading Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare. It was an interesting read I will admit. Everyone else took their seats and waited for the teacher to start the class. Everyone sat down next to their desk partner. My old partner moved to Italy last week so I was by myself. The teacher stood up to the board and wrote down this morning's assignment. And as she was explaining it to us, the door suddenly opened unannounced. "Oh, I almost forgot!"the teacher chirped as the door fully opened to show the boy from this morning walking into the room. "Sorry I'm late Miss, I got lost trying to find this class. I'm Shawn by the way. Shawn Mendes." He said with a sheepish smile.
"No, no. That's alright."she said, smiling, "Go ahead and did down in the empty seat next to Ashley, and she will catch you up on what we are doing." The teacher instructed, "Ashley dear, raise your hand so Shawn can find you."
'No,no, no...shit. Why him?' I thought. I sighed and turned my head away as I hesitantly raised my hand high in the air for him to see, and he walked over. He gently sat down and faced me. "Hey. Ashley, right?" He asked me. I looked at him and nodded my head quietly. "Cool name, I'm Shawn." He introduced himself to me, while holding one of his hands out for me to shake. I hesitantly reached out my hand to shake it and he smiled. His hand was big, and warm, and soft. It felt..nice.
I then pulled my hand back and spoke up a bit. After all, I was supposed to catch him up on our class work. "We are taking notes on the characters so we can make a character analysis paper at the end of the book. We are currently reading "Romeo and Juliet." I informed him as best I could.
He nodded his head in understanding, "Alright, seems easy enough."
I didn't reply as I started back on my work. I
The class finally ends and I pack up my bag to move to my next class, but before I could get out the door the teacher called me aside as well as Shawn. "Ashley, I would like you to show Mr. Mendes around the school and to the rest of his classes since you seem to have the same schedule. Can you do that for me please?" She asked.
"Yes Ma'am." I sighed.
"Good. Thank you. Now hurry on to your next class you two." She said shooing us away.
This is the last thing I wanted to deal with right now....
