Burgerpants' point of view
"Burgerpants!" Mettaton bursts through the wall, his panel in a panic and his wheels whirling faster than usual. Great. Just another thing to do, and this time it's to repair a wall. How utterly fantastic.
"Burgerpants, there is a boy outside stealing our sales!"
Well, this is new. Also, what sales? There's never anybody here.
"Go out there and drive him away with a stick! You have nothing better to do," Mettaton yells, as he literally pushes me out the door and into the cold, morning air.
Now I'm stuck here.
I look around a bit until I see who Mettaton was talking about. There is a tall person who looks to be a year or so younger than me, standing outside with a stand. It's a cute stand, with a little yellow and red umbrella to match his clothing, and he looks a bit sad. I almost feel bad for the kid, but I have to do my job, and unfortunately, he doesn't look like he has plans on moving his little cart thingy anytime soon.
The moment he sees me walking towards him his face lights up. "Hi there!" he nearly gushes. His voice is much higher than I thought it would be, which scares me for some reason. He's also a lot taller than I originally saw. "Would you like to buy a Nice Cream? It's only fifteen gold!"
Why am I blushing? "Um, unfortunately no..." I have know idea why I'm so nervous. I usually have a great time telling customers off, in my head of course. Mettaton would fillet me alive if I spoke my thoughts aloud.
His happy expression quickly changes to confusion. I look away. "Look kid, um..." I look back up. "What's your name?"
Why did I ask that? Why do I even care?
Now for some odd reason, he blushes. "I, um... how do I explain this," I raise my eyebrow. I didn't ask a hard question. "I don't have a name."
"What?"
"Well, my... my parents never named me, and nobody's really noticed me long enough to ask."
"And you didn't just name yourself?"
"N-n-no, I didn't. That's a good idea though!" He smiles again like he just got ten more vacation days.
Sunshine.
"I have an idea," the words pops out of my mouth before I can even stop myself. He should've been gone by now, and I should be flipping glamburgers. What is wrong with me? "Sonny."
"Sonny?" The gives me a quizzical look.
"Yes, cause Sonny sounds like sunny, as in the sun, as in the thing in the overground, and the overground gives us positivity, and you're way too positive for your own good, and blah blah blah. Now, will you please leave?" My entire face turns red.
"What?" Sonny looks shocked, but not too upset. He still has that fake positivity forced on his face, though he has no reason to torture himself like that.
"Who's Burgerpants?"
Oh god, he saw my shirt ABORT MISSION ABORT THE FUCKING MISSION WHY CAN'T I MOVE! I just stand there dumbfounded. "Uh, um, he um..."
Sonny gives me a strange look. He has a hint of something in his eyes, though I'm not sure of exactly what. Could it be... disappointment? "That's not a very nice thing to say about them."
"Look kid, Burgerpants is me. I'm Burgerpants. Does that solve all your problems?" I snarl.
He looks away. "Oh, um, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you."
"No kid, don't get upset. It's my boss's fault. He caught me smoking and told me to wear this."
For some reason he still looks sad, making me feel even more guilty. "Who's your boss?"
"Mettaton."
Sonny's eyes nearly bulge out of his head. "Your boss is Mettaton?"
"Yeah...?" He didn't see me walk from Mettaton's hotel? "What, do you love him or something? I mean, what do people see in him? He's a freaking rectangle." I laugh.
Sonny starts to smile, but it quickly fades away. "He's right there."
Oh, shit.
An unmistakable voice sends shivers up my spine. "If your paycheck weren't so low, I'd fire you on the spot." He turns to the kid, who looks absolutely terrified. "You can stay, darling."
And with that, Mettaton drags me back inside the hell I call work.
