"Do you need some rest?" The nurse that used to take care of me asked, putting the fruits she bought from the market on the table next to my bed. "I'm leaving hospital tomorrow—"
"You still need to take a rest, okay? Don't let the excitement rules your head." She joked. I slightly chuckled as I lied on the bed. "So you're on the night shift today." I said, seeing her nowhere in the hospital on the morning. "Yeah, do you know how I hate night shift? But," She sighed. Leaning against the bed, she continued, "I still have to do my work, right? That newbie doctor will scold me for sure if he saw me lazing around." She crossed her arm and shook her head.
I chuckled. She looked at me and patted my arm. "Sleep, Sleep okay? Don't you go walking around during this time, okay?" She pointed her finger at me. I asked her why and my question seems to made her sighed again. "You know these corridors are scary at night, right?"
"So?" I asked. "Aigoo, this girl doesn't know fear. Just go to sleep." She shook her head and waved at me before quitting the room I was assigned to. The door reopen again and snapped me from my thoughts. The nurse peeked through the spaces between the wall and the door, "I'm not scared of the scary corridors, okay?" She said before closing it again.
I laughed. "What is wrong with her."
---
"You woke up early today. So unexpected." The nurse slide the door opened and let herself in. She leaned in to my ears, her smile is brighter than the sun outside. "What?" I curiously asked her, narrowing my eyes at her. "I know your secret, actually." She whispered into my ears after she looked around the room, making sure that no one knows or eavesdropping her.
"What secret?"
She pushed me lightly, smiling so widely. "You like that new doctor, don't you?" I quickly hold her upper arm and told her to shut up. "Are you insane? Someone might be listening to you."
"So, you admit it?" She smirked. "No! I don't! I mean—" I sighed. "Yeah, I do. So what?" She cheered upon hearing my answer, she doesn't act like an adult at all. But that is why I prefer her than the other nurse, she's comfortable to hang out with. "But you don't have to set your hopes high though." I stated and ended her excitement almost instantly.
She asked why and I told her about the rejection yesterday. She couldn't help but wearing this sad face on. I looked at her and lightly punched her arm. "It's okay." I said, comforting her, and myself as well. Her sad face suddenly changed to anger when her eyebrows started furrowing. "And why would he rejected you?"
I giggled. "He has his own reason. Let him be," I hold both of her arms and smiled. "Okay?" I said and continue packing my things. I keep telling myself that I can't wait to be home, eat delicious food and that I miss the scent of my room. But the truth is, I still want to stay here and watch him walking around, doing his work so dedicatedly. Probably I would buy him some coffee.
The door opened again and he revealed himself. I try not to be panic or be awkward around him after the rejection. And try my best to act like nothing has happened between us. But the moment he stepped into the room, the air just changed and it becomes 'heavy'. Not helping with my plan, at all. Not slightest bit.
"So, you are informed that you can leave the hospital today." He said, his eyes fixed on the paperboard, writing something on it. "Yeah"
He tapped on the paperboard and finally looked up at me. "Congratulations on our leaving. You don't have to handle with hospital's food anymore, right?" He smiled. The way he tried to make the atmosphere looked less awkward is a bit helpful for me. But at the same time, deep down it is kind of makes me a little bit sad that he shows no sign of sadness about my leaving.
