[ELLI's POV]
*hours before Addison's house*
"MABEL!!!! GIVE ME BACK MY PHONE!!!"
A midget sized black blob raced through the front yard, jumping over the stone wall soon out of sight. I followed its scent trail of salad and soy sauce that reminded me of pool chlorine.
"MWAHAHAHA!! Imma like all of Miguel's pictures for youuuuu!" She taunted as she giddily turned back around passing me. She dashed swiftly into my house porch, locking the sliding door right as I got to the step.
Banging on the glass with one hand and wanted to give a Grandma sign in the other, I scolded, "OPEN THE DOOR!!!" Mabel immersed herself deeper into the house, heading for the kitchen after saying, "No, I'm good."I rushed to the back door but it was already closed off. I decided to go back to the step of the sliding door where there was relieving shade. As I sat on the step, dismantled of my energy, the sliding door peered opened just a crack, but slammed shut right after. A bag of double stuffed Oreos and a note was sitting on concrete beside me.
HERES SOME FOOD. IMMA EAT THE REST. ❤️MABEL
P.S. I LET BEE OUT FOR SNACKS TOO AND LOCKED ALL OF THE DOORS.Here she is, keeping me outside like an animal, as she watches Bob's Burgers with my dog. Great friend. A few minutes passed and the lock on the door suddenly clicked. Standing through the doorway was my best friend, with the biggest solemn frown plastered on her tiny Asian face.
"I ate it all."
She led me inside my own home as Bee rushed in to greet me with a gaily wag of the tail that read "I GOT TREATS!!!" over and over again. I gathered him in my arms , lifting him up like a baby being cradled.
"Where my phone at?"
"Over on the table, charging," Mabel replied as she plopped on the couch. Bee bounced out of my arms to the couch where Mabel, who was drenched in food smell, curled in a comfortable ball near her feet.I waltzed over at the table stand, then without realizing there was a white cord over black rug,. I fell on my face, pushing my phone to the floor. I dropped it down the stairs and side of the road yet it cracks against the edge of wooden coffee table. Retrieving the phone from its horrid state, the hiccuping laughter from my sick friend played in the background of my troubled luck. Finally, after recovering from the endless crack-up, Mabel applied on her most serious Serious SERIOUS face.
"Who's that?" She looked out the bay window behind me. Peeping through the open cloth curtains, a splotch of boyish looking curls bobbed up and down- obviously too short to see through the window. A desperate hand waved up, pointing to the front door. As I unlocked the wooden door, it practically forced open from the other side.
"Tanks! Its's hailing!!!" the soaked stranger barged in, stumbling and dripping with freezing rain. She wore a huge, soggy hoodie emaciated from use and glasses fogged from whatever the annoying forces that made fogged up glasses, yet you could still see her curly mop.
She took off her glasses and coat, revealing Beth. Rodney's side chick!!!!
Oh Brenda isn't gonna like this!
{nah! I kid I kid😂}
****
After I relaxed, knowing that I hadn't just let a complete weirdo stranger into my house, I went to the linen closet upstairs to fetch Beth a towel while Mabel stayed down there for some "questioning." Her words, not mine.
[MABEL's POV]
Okay, I lied earlier. I didn't eat all the food. Just all the candy and pop tarts...and maybe one of Bee's dog treats. Mhhmmm, bacon.
There were some granola bars left : extra SUPER skim milk, 7 eggs, leftover meatloaf, a bitten chicken leg, low fat yogurt, low fat cereal, water, 2 bottles of diet soda (wasn't worth it), 1 1/2 mini cupcakes, Rae's oats, protein powder, and the rest was low fat everything that causes cancer. {THATS RIGHT DAN!!! DIET STUFF MEANS CANCER. AND POLLUTION!!! AND DRUGS!!!!}
There was also some Capri Suns left, so I gave Beth one. Yes very hostess of me, I know. Though I hoped Eli would get back soon. Awkward silence. Until... Nope.
Okay, it was time for the questioning I mentioned earlier.
"So, how's the juice?"
"Liquid." She shlurped her drink as she answered. Without thinking, I finally popped in the question.
"Where were you going before you got caught in the rain?"
"Rodney's. We're suppose to be working on a school project that's due Monday." I nodded my head up and down, not sure what else to say. Though I wasn't well with small talk, something else was clouding my ability to talk other than social anxiety. Tina.Footsteps began clambering when I saw Eli's awkward stance heading down with a faded pink colored towel in her arms. She walked down cautiously, looking at each stair step, obviously worried for another clumsy fall.
"Here." She tossed the cotton parcel in which Beth gladly caught in midair.
"Thanks again." Beth smiled back while wringing her hair out first with the towel. There were a few small puddles of water droplets on the floor in the end.
