"Azumarill, use Hydro Pump!" cried Lyra.

A high-pressure torrent of water shot toward the Machoke and knocked it out in one hit.  Lyra collected her money, gave her opponent a few battle tips, and, with that cute smile of hers, bid the trainer goodbye.  She bounded down the route to meet whatever, or whoever came her way.

Silver sighed as he watched her gravity-defying pigtails bounce with each step.  What use was following her like this?  She would never approach him and talk to him and flash him that smile.  He paused for a moment.  Wait, it wasn't like he was following her or anything.  They just happened to be going the same way, and he wasn't in the mood to talk to her.  He wasn't interested in weak trainers like her.  He rushed ahead and cut through tall grass to the next town to get ahead of her.

The moment he arrived, he was bombarded with flowers, confetti, and a blizzard of flyers.  A few girls in leis were standing there with their stacks of brochures lodged in the crooks of their arms, their bikinis revealing every bit of flawless, tanned skin.  Silver couldn't help but imagine what Lyra would look like in a bikini, but he dismissed the thought as quickly as it came.  He snatched a flyer from one of the girls and went on his way.  It was a flyer for a battle tournament on a cruise ship that happened in a couple of days.  The prize was a soothe bell.  No doubt, Lyra wouldn't be able to turn down a challenge like this.  She was a sucker for items, especially ones that made Pokemon like her better.  Trust between her and her Pokémon was important to Lyra.

Silver didn't really get or care for the "trust" thing at first, but after a long journey and so many memorable encounters with the brunette, he had started to develop a closer bond with his Pokémon.  He started treating them more respectfully, and they responded with a lot of affection -- affection Silver didn't really want, but didn't really mind, either.  His Crobat, in particular, seemed to take to cuddling him.

Nurse Joy gave Silver the key to a room, and after feeding his Pokémon and letting them stretch for a bit, he put them back in their Pokéballs and slid into bed.  All he could think about before he went to sleep was Lyra.  He pictured her, dangling the soothe bell with that cute little smile on her face.  Before he realized it, his whole face was hot, and he snapped out of it.  He finally forced himself not to think, and he fell asleep.

The next day, Silver was training on the route that led into the town, and he noticed the unmistakable ridiculously large white hat with two red bows on it.  Lyra was backing up to survey what Silver could only assume to be a battle that was being fought in the sky.  She kept backing up, and Silver gulped when he saw that she was headed straight for a ledge.  He tried to call out to her, but she was too far away.  She fell backwards, twisted her leg in a way he hadn't seen before, and screamed.  A cringe contorted his face in response to the thud that vibrated through the ground.  He rushed over to her as fast as his legs could carry him.

"Well, young lady, it seems that you've sprained your ankle.  I don't think you'll be able to walk around for awhile now.  I wouldn't suggest going anywhere for the next week," the doctor stated.

Lyra groaned.  "Great, how am I going to make it to that battle tournament tomorrow?" she asked.

"I'm sorry, young lady, it looks like you won't be able to make it."

          "But-!"

"Stupid," Silver interrupted, "This is why I hate weak trainers.  You get so excited when it looks like you're going to win that you don't even pay attention to your surroundings.  You deserved to sprain your ankle."  With that, he stormed out of the doctor's office.  Silver was relieved that Lyra wasn't badly hurt, and he did feel a little sorry that she couldn't participate in the tournament.  She was the only one who would be able to make it a little interesting, for a weak trainer.  Silver convinced himself that he completely meant what he said, but a pang of guilt shot through his stomach.

As he pushed through the doors, he heard Lyra giggle, "Nah, he's always like that."

The day of the competition came, and Silver swept through the competition like a hurricane.  Round after round, he won with one-hit KO's.  When the announcer handed the soothe bell to him, Silver darted off toward the Pokémon center.

"Look, don't take this the wrong way.  I just didn't need it, and I figured a weak trainer like you could use it," Silver said, holding out the soothe bell to Lyra.  He turned his head away, attempting to hide his excitement.

Lyra held up the soothe bell by its ribbon, her eyes mesmerized by the sight of the light reflected off of the gleaming silver.  Silver couldn't help but blush at the exact scene he had pictured a couple nights before.  He opened his mouth to speak, but then he closed it again.  It took him a bit, but he worked up the courage to say something.

"Look, I --" Silver started, lowering his head sheepishly.

"Silver, can I tell you something?" Lyra interrupted.  She motioned for Silver to come closer.  Silver leaned in a little.  Lyra held her hand up next to her mouth, inferring that she wanted him to come a little closer so she could whisper something in his ear.  He leaned in a little closer, lending her his ear.  "I know you did this for me.  Thank you."  Before he could pull away, Lyra pecked him on the cheek.  Silver's face heated up, and he bolted out of the room.

Lyra giggled and waved at the retreating figure, watching his long, red hair sway in the distance.
