Mary Margaret had just gotten home from work when there was a knock at the door. Wondering who it could be, she answered it to see Emma. She could see that her eyes were red behind her glasses.

"Emma! What's wrong?" She exclaimed.

"I-it's Neal." Emma said, sniffing.

"Here, come in." Mary Margaret said, stepping aside to let Emma through the door.

"Thanks." Emma said, stepping inside.

"Do you want some cocoa?" Mary Margaret offered.

"Yes please." Emma said.

A couple of minutes later, Emma had a steaming mug of hot cocoa in front of her as she sat at the table. She saw that Mary Margaret had sprinkled something on top.

"Cinnamon?" She asked.

"Oh, sorry! It's just a quirk of mine." Mary Margaret said, sitting opposite.

"Same here." Emma said, smiling as she took a sip.

Mary Margaret remembered why Emma was here in the first place.

"So, do you want to talk about what happened with you and Neal?" She asked.

"I guess that's why I came, but it's a long story, and I've never really opened up to anyone but Neal, and look where that got me."

"Didn't you even talk to your parents?"

"Didn't have any to talk to." Emma sighed, "I'm an orphan. Abandoned on the side of the road until a 7-year-old found me."

"Oh, Emma, I'm sorry-"

"It's ok, you didn't know," Emma said, "It was actually one of the reasons I trusted Neal. He came from the same situation as me. He knows how it feels to be abandoned. We both grew up wondering if we would ever mean anything."

"Emma, you do mean something."

"But what? There was one thing I thought I could do and it turns out Neal thinks I made it up! I've trusted him with my life and the whole time he's been lying to me."

"Do you still?"

"What?"

"Trust him? Do you still trust him enough to stay with him?" Mary Margaret asked.

"I don't know. I don't know how I feel about him anymore. I have thought about leaving Storybrooke and going to Tallahassee, that's where we were going to go together, but I just can't." Emma said.

"What's stopping you?"

Emma stood up, "I've wasted enough of your time. Thanks for the cocoa and... everything." She said, hurriedly trying to get to the door.

"Emma," Mary Margaret had got up too, "You can tell me."

Emma turned around to see Mary Margaret looking at her expectantly.

"I'm pregnant." She said.

Mary Margaret wasn't quite sure what to say to this.

"Oh."

"Yeah. I can't leave Neal now," Emma said, "If I do then I will spend my life dreading the day that the kid asks where its dad is, and I won't know what to say."

Emma burst into tears. Mary Margaret hugged her and she cried into her shoulder.

"Does Neal know?" Mary Margaret asked.

"No," Emma whispered, stepping back, "Of course not."

"Why not?"

"I'm too scared to tell him." Emma admitted, "I'm not ready to tell him."

"Emma, he has to know."

"I know."

Mary Margaret's phone went off in her pocket, and she took it out to read the text.

"I'm sorry, Emma, I have to go. I need to get to the hospital," She saw the look of alarm on Emma's face, "No, don't worry! I volunteer there. Just, promise me you'll tell Neal today."

"Today?!"

"Yes today. This is big news for him Emma. I'm sure everything will be fine, but if for any reason it isn't, you can stay here."

"Why? Why would you help me when you barely know me?" Emma asked.

"What are friends for?"

Emma laughed, "I've never been good at being a friend. I'm kind of a loner."

"Well, it's time to stop that then, isn't it?"

Emma smiled, "Thank you."

Mary Margaret smiled back. She didn't normally get to know strangers this well, but that was mainly due to the fact that she hadn't seen a stranger in Storybrooke for a long time. But she could see that Emma needed a friend right now, and Mary Margaret had a feeling that they knew each other from somewhere...
