(First person, Chaejin POV, Y/N)My head rested on the bench in front of me as I looked towards the cafe door. I was waiting for my best friend; and crush, Y/N. It was raining heavily, but that didn't give her an excuse to be late. I lifted my head and looked out of the window in front of me. There were drops of condensation on the glass, which raced down the screen after they became too heavy. I took a sip of the hot chocolate I had ordered, deciding I would only wait five more minutes for Y/N to arrive before I left.
I looked at the scenery outside. There was a sea of umbrellas swimming through the rain. I smiled to myself as I saw a crowd of high school students playing in the puddles along the far path. The good old days when there's wasn't much stress and you could easily play with your friends.I looked down at my watch and saw that I had been waiting for too long.
"One call won't hurt..." I said aloud and dialled Y/N's number. I pressed the phone to my ear, hearing the dial tone repeatedly ring. There was no answer. I sighed to myself and left the cafe. I hadn't brought my umbrella, so I was getting incredibly wet. I had to walk a kilometre to get home, and I was dreading the idea already. Y/N's workplace was on the way to my apartment, so I decided to stop by when I approached it. She worked at a small clothing boutique with her best friend.
I arrived at the store and walked in briskly. Y/N's best friend was at the counter, organising some front-of-store souvenirs in a box.
"Hey Haena." I said as I walked towards her.
"Oh! Chaejin, it's been forever since I've seen you. How are you going?" She cheerfully smiled and I continued the conversation further before deciding to mention Y/N.
"Has Y/N already left? I was supposed to meet with her today." I asked, looking around the boutique.
"Yeah, she left about five minutes ago after cleaning up. A guy came to pick her up. I don't know who he is, but it's not her brother. And I know it's not her cousin. Maybe... a secret boyfriend?" Haena smiled at the idea of a mystery relationship. I groaned at the thought and ran out of the shop. It could be a dangerous situation.
Back outside in the pouring rain, I looked to both sides of the path to see if Y/N was anywhere near. From the corner of my eye, I could see a shining object coming from the direction I was heading in. As I got closer to the glistening reflection, I began to recognise it. I picked it up and saw a necklace in my hand. It was a silver chain with a blue diamond pendant. It was the necklace I gave Y/N for her birthday last year. I ran further down the path. I sprinted past the masses of people as a gut feeling started to build in my stomach. Before long, I could see a familiar girl being dragged around by a man dressed in all black. Y/N's wrist was being held as she was pulled into a blocked alleyway between two buildings. I ran as fast as my legs could take me until I reached the final destination. The alleyway was dark and muddy, and the litres of rainwater flooded the small space quickly.
At the end of the alleyway, I saw Y/N cowering in fear. The man was crouched beside her, pulling her hair and muttering some nonsense into her ear. I ran towards the scene and pushed the guy to the ground, right into a puddle; before giving my a solid punch in the face. I pulled Y/N up and told her to run.
"I'm not leaving without you!" She yelled at me and began pulling my arm. I stayed fixed in my stance and try to push Y/N off me. The man stood up and pulled something out of the inside pocket of his leather jacket. It was a gun.
I broke into a cold sweat as I felt the fear wash over me. Y/N was fearfully hiding behind me, hands clenching onto the fabric of my sweater.
"Who do you think you are? Interrupting my business with this young lady." The man snarled, using the gun to gesture his words.
"Please stop this. I was just paid, so I can give you the money by tomorrow afternoon." Y/N pleaded and moved in front of me. The man pushed Y/N towards the wall and lifted his gun to face me. As if everything was in slow motion, the distorted and agonising sound of Y/N scream filled the air; right before the sound of a gunshot echoed loudly throughout my ears. It was insane. I watched the bullet rush towards me, my heart dropping as my eyes followed it until it hit the side of my abdomen. I fell to the ground; everything went back to its normal speed after the sudden pain rushed over me. I groaned and placed a hand over the wound, blood completely covering my hand. Y/N tried to rush over to me, only to have the man drop his gun beside me and throw her to the ground.
"That money was supposed to be in my hands by Tuesday!" The man shouted at Y/N while tugging at her hair as she hopelessly laid on the ground. She screamed loudly as the man slapped her. I felt anger wash over me watching the torturing scene. With one hand on my wound, I reached out for the gun with the other. I pulled it back to me and saw that there was still one bullet left inside. I had never used a gun, so this plan better have worked out. I pulled back he click-y thing that I don't know the name of (I actually don't know the name of it I'm Aussie sorry guys) before taking my aim. I was planning on shooting the man's head, it was the quickest way to kill someone. I closed my eyes as I was about to pull the trigger. The sounds of Y/N's screams in the background went silent as the bang went off. I opened my eyes. The man was on the ground, not moving. There was blood colouring the puddles around him. Y/N stared down at the man with shock all over her face.
"He's dead..." She whispered incoherently. She looked over and me and ran over to sit beside me.
"Are you okay?" She asked as she comfortingly placed her hand behind my head. I smiled at her as I knew that I wasn't going to make it out of this alive. My lung had been punctured and I was finding it extremely hard to breathe.
"Y/N..." I whispered as I looked up into her beautiful eyes, "I need to tell you something before I go."
"You're not going to die!" She burst into tears, the sudden realisation hitting her. "I'm calling an ambulance-"
"Don't call them. I'm going to die. I'm not going to live Y/N." I held her hand away from her handbag. She sobbed hard and caressed my cheek.
"Y/N, I want you to know that... I love you." I whispered as I felt my breath shorten and chest tighten up.
"I love you too." She leant down and gave me a small and loving kiss on the lips. I could feel her warm tears fall on my cheek as she pulled away from me. I smiled as my vision went cloudy and the ambient sounds around me slowly got quieter. My eyes closed as all I could see was white, white and white. The sound of Y/N screaming was draining out; my awareness was fading. My body was numb and vision was blocked.
"Wake up! Chae Jinseok, open your eyes!" was the last thing I could hear before I was no longer a living and existing being.A/N
