"Have you ever tried this before?" Hayden sat next to me on my bed as I fired up my MacBook, biting my lip.
"No," I responded. "But for the past week now Antoine has been so busy. He says its football, and I just need to know whether or not I can believe him."
"Trust me, Valentine, if Antoine was ditching you for someone else—he would say it to your face."
I glanced over at Hayden and sighed. "How do you know?"
"Because he did it to me. He literally approached me after class and told me he didn't really want me anymore." She shrugged. "I didn't really care, I saw it coming. He is, after all, Antoine Griezmann. But I wonder what he sees in you that he doesn't see in other girls..." Hayden's voice drifted off. "No offense."
And here I was about to apologize for the fact that Antoine dropped her and moved on to me. I typed in his name in the Google searchbar before clicking it—I wanted to know everything Antoine wasn't telling me.
The only issue was that the media lied, and fairly often. "Okay," I spoke. "I think I believe him." After all, these articles had pretty serious titles—"Antoine Griezmann, France's new young hero", "Antoine Griezmann tops list of Footballers to watch in the 2016/17 season", "Antoine Griezmann—more than just a striker," and my personal favorite; "Why everyone loves Antoine Griezmann, France's star forward."
With my lips parted, I read each and every single article, Hayden at my side. She was talking to me, but I ignored her; quite frankly I couldn't stand her voice. But she was, all in all, a great friend.
I learned that in France, Antoine was told that he was too small to play professionally—so he came to Uni to continue his education and get stronger, bigger and better—which he clearly has. Now that he was back on top, however, there were practically a million clubs around the continent that were competing for the Frenchman—but based off of what Antoine had told me, the only clubs he seemed interested in were Chelsea and Atletico Madrid. With the semester coming to an end, I realized that he was going to have to make his decision soon. He was going to leave.
"Look!" Hayden finally managed to snap me out of my daze, leaving me to blink. I'd been scrolling through pictures of Antoine when, randomly, one of myself appeared.
"Huh?"
"There's an article about you! Five things to know about Valentine Elliott, Antoine Griezmann's stunning girlfriend." Hayden squealed. "Click it!!"
"I don't know if I would consider myself his girlfriend, but...fine." Raising my eyebrows, I clicked the header, biting my lip as the article instantly appeared on my page.
"Let me see." Hayden took the computer and hid the screen from me, leaving me to roll my eyes. "I'll read it to you," she noted.
"Go on, then."
Hayden squealed again. "Number one. Antoine tells us in a recent interview that, born in England, he met the British beauty in high school. She was an exchange student, while he was a native of the city. This makes them high school sweethearts—or so we thought. Antoine says that he and the Brit didn't get close until they rekindled at Uni."
