A week has past since I had that first dream and I've been having dreams like those ever since, I can't seem to get Tyler out of my head, But I have to. There is only a couple more weeks until we have to go on tour again, I need to pull myself together. For the first time in what feels like forever, I try to look good and I feel like going out and doing something with my life. I grab my keys and drive down to a festival that was going on downtown.
Once I get there I hop out of my car to see multiple people marching around the area drumming, dancing and singing and a large amount of people inside the park the festival was taken place in. I didn't really know what festival this was when I decided to come here, I just wanted to get out of the house but I know found out that it was a music festival. I lock my car and Join in the crowd.
There was a band playing on the stage, two young guys around the ages of 17 and 18. The two reminded me about when me and Josh started Twenty one Pilots. This is probably the biggest show they have done at this point and they were rocking it. The shorter guy with long black hair was the drummer and the other with hot pink hair was the singer. They are a rock band and I was really enjoying their music.
"Hey guys, our time on stage is almost up so we can play one last song, but first I want to say something about us." The singer says after the song ended. "I'm Dakota Patton and this guy is Scott Lake he's the best drummer I have ever met."
The drummer jumps up from his seat behind the drumkit and walk up beside Dakota. "And we are the band "Backwards Death"
"The reason me and Scott decided to pursue our dreams of becoming a band is due to our biggest inspiration, Twenty one Pilots." I smile at the phrase, it's hard to imagine me and Tyler are making people's dreams come true.
"They have helped us both and many people around the world, without them I don't think I would be here. So go check them out if you don't know who they are, it will be worth it I promise." Scott added.
"And as they would say at the end of their shows, Stay Alive." Dakota puts his arm up with the microphone like Tyler sometimes does as Scott runs back behind the drumkit and they start playing another song.
The song ends and they say their thank you's and walk off the stage as another band walk on. I just have to meet Dakota and Scott. Unlike me Scott wasn't an anxious mess. I see them walk out behind the stage and I push through to crowd to see them. Scott looks at me in shock and his Jaw drops as he punches Dakota in the arm who was looking to other way signaling him to turn around.
"J-Josh Dun!" Dakota yells
Scott runs and gives me a hug, I can tell I am a big part in what got him into drumming. And he explains exactly that.
"Is Tyler with you Josh?" Dakota adds.
"I'm not with him but he may be here with Jenna, I know he loves this stuff."
"Is it okay if we tell the guy running this thing is you guys can do a surprise performance after this show if he is here?" Scott asks. I don't want to see Tyler, That's why i'm here, But I am everything to these two boys and It's not that big of a deal.
"Sure you can call out for him after this band is done."
"If he isn't here can I sing for you Josh, I know every one of your guy's songs." Dakota exclaims.
The band that was on stage just finished playing, they were some sort of parody band so all their songs were just for laughs, Reminds me of Tyler and his old song TB Saga.
The Manager of the Festival went on stage since Dakota and Scott told him we were here, well at least me. "It looks like we have a surprise guest! From right here in Ohio Josh Dun from Twenty One Pilots!" The crowd goes wild. "But it's not a band without another person, is Tyler Joseph here tonight?"
A part of me wants to see him, but the whole reason i'm here is to get him out of my mind and I guess that's not working out for me. I also want Dakota to have a chance to sing for me, he is a big fan of ours after all and he's a great singer. I jump on stage and wave to the audience and sit behind a rock drum kit that I am unfamiliar with and I wait to see if Tyler is here.
I look over to the opposite side of the stage to see Tyler jump on stage. But Tyler is different. His hair grew more, and it's more fluffy I just want to stroke it. He has black around his hands and neck and a red beanie in his hands. He is wearing all black even though it is boiling hot outside. I have never seen Tyler like this, it doesn't seem like him. He has changed.
"Hey guys i'm Tyler Joseph from Twenty One Pilots and me and my friend Josh Dun are going to play a few songs for you." He says, stuttering a bit. Did I do this to him? He looks me in the eyes, he look so soulless. "But I wrote a song that Josh doesn't know yet, but he's good at playing by ear so I'm sure it will be fine. Then we will do Guns for Hands and Car Radio alright?" He says to the audience. I'm confused why is he performing a new song here and putting me in this situation? He knows I can't do this in front of this big of a crowd, sure it's not like our concerts but i'm not the best drumming blindly to a song on the spot.
"It's not finished so excuse me if it's not that good" He adds before he starts singing. "You don't know my brain the way you know my name" He sings and looks at me for a split second, "You don't know my heart the way you know my face" I start to catch on to the tune of song and slowly start drumming.
"Release me from the present, I'm obsessing all these questions, Why I'm in denial that they tried the suicidal session, Please use discretion when you're messing with the message, man, These lyrics aren't for everyone, only few understand." He finishes, it was only a quick short song, he's probably not finished writing that's why he never told me about it. Oddly he wouldn't stop looking at me when he sang the first couple lines.
"I'm trying, I'm trying to sleep" He transfers into the next song
I can't stop thinking about the lyrics of the new song he was singing. It distracts me from playing I mess up a bit, but it seems like no one really noticed.
After car radio was done I decided to go talk to Tyler. I followed him off stage, he was walking to his car.
"Tyler!" I grab his attention.
"Josh leave." He stops in his path but continues to look away from me
"Tyler, I'm sorry"
"I'm not Tyler, Josh, Tyler is gone."
"Ty-"
"Josh leave before he gets into your head too." He snaps. He Jumps in his car and leaves.
