A few days passed and mom had already explained everything about my origins -- how my dad is a constellation in the sky, how they fell in love in the cold night sky of Paris, how they bore a child with Richard Inaki "Indy" Villanueva as a name, how i got my father's features -- and power. She told me everything that i had to know, everything I was ignorant about. I wasn't mad at her, even after all the secrets she hid from me, of course. I knew she had it rough through raising me up and I didn't blame her for keeping all those. I might've gone crazy if she had told me beforehand.
Everything went back to normal, like the attack in the city library didn't happen at all. The news about what happened in the library seemed to have spread like wildfire through the time, especially in school. The government, luckily, could not explain everthing that happened during that night and just blamed it to the earthquake that happened -- though I didn't feel anything during that fight.
"Hey," Leo nudged, slapping me out of my trance.
"Hey," i nudged back.
"What was that back there?" Sam asked as she sat down on her chair.
"What was what?"Arielle asked, confused.
"Nothing. Not here." I blurted.
"Right." Leo said, but the tone in his voice told me he was worried.
I couldn't blame him. He saw everything that happened. Anyone would've gone crazy after seeing that, but amazingly, Leo and Sam didn't. They didn't tell anyone about what they saw, they were scared no one would believe them. They were scared people might think we were crazy.
Mrs. Esther was also rescued in the library when she was found lying on the floor, unconscious. Rubbles were all around her and she was in the middle of a wrecked place that seemed like a hurricane passed through. She was rushed through the hospital right after, and we didn't hear from her since.
The week was almost over, just two more days before the promised date mom and Jay talked about. But ever since that incident, nothing out of the normal happened. Maybe Jay was wrong, maybe mum was right -- I'd be fine without that city.
The bell rang and we started to walk to the cafeteria, relieved that that Math class was over. Screw Math, I'd always wonder where I'll use AX+BY=C ir any other equation in my life. As we were walking through the corridors, people were swarming around us as we whispery talking about what happened.
Instead of getting scared, Leo and Sam found my situation cool and awesome. Arielle just listened in our conerstation as she walked silently with us.
"That moment you punched the ground and made a crevasse was priceless!" Leo whispered.
"No, the besdt part was when he hit Peter Pan with a bookshelf. Did you see his face? It was like--" Sam whispered as she did some funny face she saw Peter Pan did.
We all laughed hard like we haven't laughed in days. And I wished it was just like that -- no red dudes, no monsters, no people going crazy, no troubles, no oh-I'm-a-son-of-a-constellation, just a plain and normal highschool life. But as I drenched myself in these thoughts and enjoyed that happy moment with my best friends, all hell broke lose.
As we were walking through the doors of the cafeteria, I saw someone peculiar but no one noticed him. He was just behind the food counters, sitting comfortably on an oven as the cooks passed in front of him like he wasn't there at all. Leo and Sam poked me.
"Isn't that--" Leo whispered.
"The guy i saw in the library." i finished.
"But how could?" Sam managed through her clattering teeth.
"He comes for madness," Arielle whispered, her voice so low it was hard to grasp. Sweat trickled down her neck and her breathing became unstable. She was uncomfortable but i didn't know why, i didn't even know how she could she that red dude.
"Why stopping?" Mark asked behind us, startling us with his mushroom-like presence. Why mushroom? You know that feeling when a mushroom just sprouts out of nowhere, yeah, that.
"Since when did you--" Sam huffed.
"Just now," Mark answered. "Why stopping? Oh Stacie."
Upon hearing her name, i noticed Stacie bullying the school chef along with her friends. Of course, Candz wasn't partaking with the scheme.
"What is this screwed up, food?!" Stacie shouted in her squeaky voice.
"Wait, is this even food?" one said followed by a series of laughter.
The chef, a Black American stout woman with her dark hair braided, just kept quiet and avoided the students as she went back to her duties, showing her wide back to Stacie and her friends. Stacie took that as an insult, her face turned sour as anger took over her expression. She threw her tray at the chef's back and stained the poor woman's chef outfit but she didn't budge.
Just then, the dude in red went down, walked around the poor chef. He smiled -- a cruel and cold smile. His pale white skin touched the woman's hand and, slowly, he disappeared as being sucked by the lady. She turned around and her expression turned grim.
"Oh no." Arielle said, worry reeking in her words.
The chef suddenly screeched a loud noise, startling and silencing all the students in the cafeteria. Their attention was caught pasted to the counters as the woman shuddered like an epileptic kid. Her other chefs, who were having some epileptic moment too, shook fast enough that there were three figures scrambling in one body -- like their person was slowly being split into three -- until they stopped and settled into guys in black suits, dark sunglasses, black mafia hats, and suitcases.
"What the--" Stacie's boyfriend didn't finish when an explosion ignited in the counters and sent all of them flying through the canteen.
"I don't like what's going to happen." Leo said.
"Me too," Sam gulped.
"Whatever you guys say." Mark agreed. "
"Just stay behind me, guys. I'll take care of this." I said, though my voice faltered. And i noticed Arielle not with us anymore which made me worried. Where did she go? Would she be alright?
The men in black went towards the chef. They sort of morphed into her and what stood before us scared the shit out of me. There stood before us, the Butcher. She was a disaster with her eye almost popping out her incredibly ruined face, her body full of stiches and slices where some of her organs were already oozing out, her butcher knife with the blade made up of the men in black and the handle a mixture of crying heads tied up with gruesome intestines. (Like Pudge in DOTA but just a lady version, and way more yucky.)
