"Have fun, baby girl. No funny business, alright?"
I sighed, and hoisted my pack further up on my back.
"We barely even see the guys, Dad. Relax." That wasn't necessarily a lie, but it wasn't necessarily the truth either.
Dad grinned sheepishly. Vanessa leaned across Dad to talk to me, her long, dark hair falling into his lap.
"Have fun, mi bebé. Your Dad and I will miss you so very much," she said in her thick, Colombian accent.
I smiled and leaned in to kiss Dad's rough, stubbly cheek and Vanessa's smooth, darkly tanned one.
"Bye, guys."
"You sure you'll be okay? You don't-"
"Kieth, she is 17, we cannot hold her back from her life choices."
Dad shook his head. "Once again, you're right, Ness. Have a good time, baby doll. Try not to get pregnant."
"Goodbye, Dad!" I encouraged with a sarcastic tone, ignoring his comment.
"Use protection!" Vanessa yelled out as they drove away in Dad's Camaro convertible, and I laughed. Mom would've killed them both for saying that to me.
Readjusting my bag again, I walked towards the main house. As I walked, I looked around at the scenery. Thick, dark evergreens surrounded the camp on either side, the sunlight filtering in through their needles. Mountains of ombre'd hues were visible in the distance, shrouded my mist and clouds.
Focusing my gaze on the building in front of me, I still couldn't get over how huge the main house was though I had been here a week earlier to drop off my camp supplies. It was a towering, many floored structure built entirely of glass and wood. I pumped the silver handle and a blast of arctic cold air blew my hair back. Stepping inside, I spotted a golden haired woman at the front desk.
She looked up with her green eyes and smiled charmingly. "Hello! Are you here for our summer camp?"
I nodded.
"Name, please?"
"Alexa Collins."
"Well, welcome to Camp Waziyatah, Alexa. I'm Samantha Lolson."
She shuffled around some papers on her desk for a minute before handing me a schedule and a map.
"You're cabin one, located at North Hill." She tapped the spot circled in blue sharpie on my map. "Your cabin mates are already there. You missed lunch, which is at 12:30 everyday, but dinner is at 6:30. I take it you already ate?" I nodded. "Okay, good! At 9 we'll have our welcoming bonfire. Also," She rummaged in a drawer in her desk, "Here is the guideline and rule list. Please make sure to read and return the form by tonight, where it will be collected at the bonfire......I think that's it. Do you have any questions for me, Alexa?"
"I don't think so."
"Well then, you can go on your way and meet your cabin mates. Don't hesitate to ask if you need anything!"
I smiled and thanked her, and headed out the door.
As I passed a thick pine tree, a football suddenly came hurtling out of nowhere. I dropped all my stuff, and snagged it out of the air right before it hit-and possibly would have broke-my nose.
I turned angrily to face the five guys who stood a bit ways away, two of which were snickering. The three others looked on in amusement.
"What the hell?" I yelled, my face contorting angrily as I threw up arms in question, gripping the football with one hand.
