Chapter five: Beautiful

Chapter 5:

The next morning Edward and I stayed in bed a little later than usual. Renesmee slept over at the big house on the couch with her head on my lap, though they carried her to the bed in the guest bedroom. Quil and Embry had left a little after that. Edward and I excused ourselves much later, wanting to go home for a few hours. Finally I decided it was time to go back to the big house. I got up to get dressed. Edward got up after me. I grabbed a random blue blouse and a pair of blue jeans from my closet. Of course, the shirt was not casual enough and jeans were too tight for my liking. It didn’t take Alice long to figure out that I clearly needed help dressing  myself and emptied my closet of any plain t-shirts and good jeans. Now my closet is 100% Alice approved. Hurray.

I threw on a pair of shoes. Edward put on a pair a shorts and a shirt. We ran over to the big house. Renesmee was lying tiredly on the couch. She was watching SpongeBob with Kate, Garrett, and Esme. “Hey, Bella, Edward,” Kate said when she saw us.

“Hi Momma, Dad. Patrick fell off a cliff and lost his head,” Renesmee said. She yawned.

“Good morning, Renesmee.” I looked over at the screen. Patrick was stumbling around without a head. “That’s not creepy.”

“I know,” Kate said. “I don’t know why I don’t watch this show.”

“I’ll be back a little later, love.” Edward said. I looked over at him.

“Oh, um, okay.” Hey walked out the door.

I sat down on the couch next to Renesmee. When I sat down she snuggled up against me. We watched SpongeBob. Ness could hardly keep her eyes open. Then another episode of SpongeBob came on. It was the one where they had to deliver the pizza. There were times were Ness could hardly breathe she was laughing so hard. Kate was laughing, too. As it turns out, she has surprisingly never seen the show before. Soon Nessie fell asleep. I looked over at Kate. She was smiling ear to ear. I looked on the screen. SpongeBob was hugging a rock.

“Kate,” I said. She started laughing. “Kate.” She completely ignored me. For crying out loud, it’s just a cartoon. “Kate.” She looked over at me.

“I’m sorry did you say something? This is just so funny. It’s a rock!” I stared at her. “Sorry.”

“Has Tanya come back yet?” She frowned and I instantly regretted asking.

“No. There’s been no sign of her. Don’t worry about it, though. She’ll come around.”

“Thanks.” We looked at the screen. She was about to say something else, but then Renesmee started to wake up. She rubbed her eyes.

“How long was I asleep?” I kissed her head.

“Not long.” Just then I heard Jake open the door. He walked into the living room.

“Hey.” Renesmee sat up.

“Hey, Jake! I just woke up.” Hey sat down on the couch between her and Kate.

“I can see that, your hair’s a mess,” he joked. She pouted. “I’m just kidding, yeesh. You look beautiful.” Ness smiled like it was the best thing she had ever heard. I narrowed my eyes at Jake. “I mean, you look okay, Ness” Ness frowned and her eyes saddened. “I mean, you do look beautiful, but, um. Why are women so confusing?” He got up and left the room. “I’ll be back by lunch.” We just sat there watching were Jake left. Then Kate started doubling over in laughter. Ness started laughing, too.

“What’s so funny?” Kate looked up at me.

“The, the house was right there. The Krusty Krab was like, five feet away!” She started laughing again. I started laughing, too. Even though I was laughing, inside I was upset. Why would it matter to Renesmee what Jake thought of her? I knew the answer.
