Chapter 1: Carlisle Ether

I'm Carlisle Ether. You can call me Carly. I'm sixteen. My father died when I was 7. I don't know what is death at that time. But few years later, my mother became seriously ill. She became bedridden for years without end. I have an elder sister named Nerissa Ether and a younger brother named Sebastian Ether. I'm the middle child. It was Nerissa's turn to feed and clothe us. She's the boss in the house. Me and Sebastian are taking care of our mother while Nerissa is the queen bee in the house. Everytime me and Sebastian made a petty mistake, Nerissa will berate us, she abuse us often. I knew my mother was not happy about the whole thing, but, she could not do anything.

Most of the time, Sebastian is left to do heavy works at home while I'm in school. We take turns when I went home, it's my turn to do chores while Nerissa is just lying down on her bed and doing nothing after she went home from her work. Nerissa treat us like slaves. Everytime she had her meal, Nerissa will ask me and Sebastian to wait for her. It was only she would allow us to feed our own mother. We were left nothing more to eat except her leftover.

Me and Sebastian don't like Nerissa. But, we could not do anything because she is our elder sister. Our mother is not happy about the whole thing but she could not do anything for us.

One fateful night, I just came home from school. I hear Nerissa's voice, shouting. I rushed to the door and I saw she's shouting at our mother and Sebastian is just at the corner of mother's room. I saw her, chocking my mother to death. My eyes blazed with furry. I pushed Nerissa away and she released mother from her firm grip on her neck.

"What the hell are you doing? Are you trying to kill mother?!" I shouted.

"Shut up! This woman is useless and I'm the one who gives essentials to all of you!" she held my arm tightly and I'm trying to escape.

"Nerissa! Sto-" I heard mother and she held her chest. A loud thud on the floor was heard.

"M- Mother..?" I whispered. Mother collapsed on the floor. "Sebastian! Water! Get some water! hurry!"

Sebastian ran to the kitchen and get a glass of water but it's too late. Mother left the three of us forever.

During the burial, Me and Sebastian are in emptiness, sadness. But I saw in Nerissa's eyes is like she won the game. Later night, me and Sebastian decided to ran away from the living hell. While Nerissa is asleep, Me and Sebastian pack our things. But she woke up, furious.

Me and Sebastian ran away. As I lost Sebastian. I don't know where he is. I don't know where to find him. This time I cried while walking this lonely pavement and everyone judged me. I am alone forever.
