A/N: And Then, He Came Back was based on my own desire to leave and live away from everything but as much as I love the idea, I didn't know how to write it and I quickly abandoned it.
One day, Stiles left.
The Pack didn't realise he had left until a week later. You see, Stiles had left a Saturday morning. The Pack had been busy with their own werewolf things and had just thought he was sick and couldn't come to school when came Monday. However, the following Saturday, the Pack had started to worry. It made sense to everyone that Scott was sent to the Stilinski home to investigate. When the Sheriff told Scott about Stiles leaving, Scott didn't know what to think. He didn't know how he hadn't realised anything or why Stiles had left. He was simply left confused and completely not ready to face the wrath of the Alpha when he was to tell him about Stiles leaving.
Derek didn't get angry, contrary to expectations, and just said he was aware.
Derek was the only one in the pack who received news from Stiles, he'd never tell them or show them what he and Stiles talked about unless Stiles had a message for them.
At first, it was hard to get used to, but it became easier as time passed and, eventually, it was normal. Derek would receive texts, tell the pack if Stiles wanted him to, and everyone went on not knowing where Stiles was, what he was doing, or who he was becoming.
To all of them, it was obvious to see that Stiles and Derek's relationship had changed quite sometime before Stiles had left. What the pack didn't know was when the change had happened, if it had been quick or slow, if there had been obvious signs they had all missed. In the end, they didn't mind it much. Stiles and Derek were close, they didn't fight anymore, that sounded like a peaceful break from what their relationship used to be.
After exactly a year of Stiles being gone, Derek called all of them in for a pack meeting. He looked worried and on edge, as if something had gone wrong, putting everyone's nerve in a bundle.
"Alright," he annouced, "Stiles allowed me to tell you guys what he was doing this past year."
At this, they all perked up and brightened, "Don't get excited just yet pack." Warned Derek, "Stiles was training as a sorcerer. He looks different now, so don't get surprised. Don't hug him or get too close to him yet. I know you missed him, but so did everyone else and as wolves, we can't touch him for another 2 weeks." The pack glared at the air, they didn't talk but their bodies stiffened angrily. Then, they relaxed as they smelled Stiles outside.
Stiles came in with a light smile and longer hair, and tattoos, and wow, he looked so grown up and different. Scott ran to him but stopped a step away when Derek growled lightly at him. Stiles backed up a step making his tattoos light up. Derek came towards Stiles, stopping two steps away, "You know Stiles, you might want to use that shield you talked to me about." Stiles smiled even more, "Scutum ascendet, Protege me a lupis, Scutum venire ad me, Protege ab omnibus tueatur."
As his spoke, the wolves looked amazed at the blue shield coming around Stiles about two steps in front, back, and sides before disappearing. Well, more like became invisible as Scott showed by touching the shield which lit up blue.
As the two weeks went by, the wolves watched as Stiles and Derek lived in their own little world. Between training Stiles' new abilities and the wolves' natural abilities and having dinners with the whole pack, and watching movies, and staying up late talking, the wolves could see the change now. They could see the relationship that had started over a year ago and developped long distance for a year.
