Kinsley jolted her body upright in bed, letting out a small shriek. She looked around in panic, realizing she was in her room. It was just a nightmare. She breathed heavily as she looked towards her alarm clock which read, 8:00 a.m. She groaned as she got out of bed to get dressed. She had only graduated high school about two weeks ago. It was a big milestone, but she didn't really feel any different. You know when it's your birthday or you move up a grade and you family asks you, "Do you feel any older?" And then you either say yes or no. Well in this case, she didn't feel any older. And she definitely didn't look any older. Her mom had said, when she had graduated high school, she thought she could do anything; dominate the world, do whatever she wanted. She had said that she moved out when she graduated because she thought she didn't need her parents anymore. Apparently, they had gotten into an argument. Her mother had grabbed her wrist to keep her from leaving, she hit her mother, and then her father hit her. She left after that. So far, Kinsley has never seen her grandparents. It didn't really matter though, she had always thought having grandparents would be irritating. They would just squeeze her cheeks and tell her 'how old' she had gotten. Kinsley rolled her eyes at herself in the mirror. She knew most grandparents weren't like that. Thinking they'd be like that just give her an excuse so that she doesn't have to feel bad about not have any. She threw her hair up into a messy bun after taking care of her hygienic needs. She trotted down the stairs to find her mother cooking at the stove."Hey mom," Kinsley chirped as she went over to the counter to grab her sketch book. Her mom turned around to look at her and a smile instantly appeared on her face, "Good morning honey. Sleep well?" Kinsley bit her lip thinking about her dream and decided to tell her mom. "Actually, I've been having these really strange dreams. Well, they're more like nightmares I guess. Jeremy has been involved in most of them and three other people are involved too. In the nightmares, Jeremy has been violent towards me and last night's nightmare has been the most violent yet. The other three people are absolutely beautiful. I haven't seen all of them closely, but I can just tell they're gorgeous. Last night, I saw one of them up close though. I was at Pandemonium, and Jeremy has gotten into an argument with me. I told him I was done with him and he got extremely angry. He dragged me outside and began beating me. I thought I was going to die, but the other people saved my life. All of a sudden, a sword lands next to me. It was glowing and it was absolutely stunning. I saw the a boy on the ground with Jeremy on top of him. Jeremy had tentacles coming out of his mouth. The boy was struggling to push Jeremy away. So, I assumed the sword belonged to the boy. I was confused why none of his companions were helping him, but then I saw a body on the floor near the other side of the wall, unmoving. And then the third one was  dragging himself towards an object on the floor, it almost looked like a bow and arrow, but it seemed so far away. I knew the boy was going to die if I didn't do something so I looked over to the sword on the ground, but it wasn't glowing anymore. I grabbed it and it immediately lit up. I struggled to get up and I went over to Jeremy and the boy. I stabbed in the back and he disappeared into mid air. The boy got up as I collapsed. He caught me in his arms and I saw his face. He had golden hair that shimmered in the moonlight, one of his eyes was blue and the other was a golden brown, his face was chiseled and well defined. He was so handsome. He looked like he could be a god. And then I asked him who he was and he said, I'm a Shadowhunter. And then everything went black. I don't understand what that nightmare could possibly mean," she explained, as her mom stood there listening. She hadn't even realized she was looking at the ground until she heard the pan on the stove sizzle. Kinsley looked up to see her mother. She looked as if she has just seen a ghost. Her face was pale, she looked shocked, and she stood there in silence. "Mom, are you ok?" She asked, raising an eyebrow. Her mom snapped back to life, looking sort of panicked. "Huh? Oh, yep. I'm perfectly fine. That's a strange dream. But, I kind of need to talk to you about something very important," her mom rambled on nervously. "C'mon mom, we've already had that talk. I remember everything that you told me," Kinsley said, rolling her eyes. "No, this is a very different talk," her mom said, looking at her in the eye. "Well, can it wait until after Simon and I come back from Pandemonium tonight?" Kinsley asked, grabbing a granola bar off the counter and peeling the plastic off. "Well, I guess. But, you need to be careful when you go tonight because there are lots of bad people out-," her mom said, but was cut off by Kinsley. "Mom, what's up with you? I tell you about my nightmare and then you go all protective on me? I'm not a little girl anymore, I can take care of myself," she said with an annoyed look on her face, as she took a bite of her granola bar. "I know, but I just want you to be safe. Especially now that your eighteen and out of high school. I just don't want you to do anything that you'll regret later on," her mother said, with a genuinely concerned look on her face. "Mom, trust me. I'm not going to make any mistakes that I'll regret. And nothing is going to happen to me," Kinsley replied, with a smile on her face. "Alright, just please be careful," her mom said in a small voice. "I will mom. Love you," she said as she began walking towards the front door. "I love you too," her mother said. It almost looked as if she had tears in her eyes, but she walked out before she could take a closer look.
