"So when are you gonna wake up and solve my murder?"
"Mrs. Ellis?! How are you in apartment? And how are you alive?"
"Call me Betty, I'm in your apartment because we need to talk. And I'm alive because I wasn't murdered. That's why I need your help."
"My help?"
"Yes, your help, I heard that you, agent Thompson was the best agent in your field. So your help, yes."
"Why aren't you dead? Why haven't you come to the police yet?"
"I'm not dead, because whoever tried to murder me failed. I don't know who he was or why he was trying to kill me. I watched him kill the women that has my name on a tag on her toe. I haven't gone to the police because I can't trust anyone. The only reason I'm trusting you is because you're a very smart man. You don't look like a murderer, plus you help solve murder cases. So I'm trusting you, don't let me down."
Betty slowly walked out of agent Thompson's apartment. When agent Thompson looked down the hallway, she was gone. "How did she get down the hallway so fast? Where'd she go?" Is what agent Thompson was thinking to himself while he took his morning shower while getting ready for Mrs. Ellis's funeral. "Wait, can I still let them go through with the funeral? Mrs. Ellis isn't actually dead, should I let them bury whoever this other women is?"
Agent Thompson went to Mrs. Ellis's funeral wearing a black tux and a nice dark purple tie. He tried his hardest not to stop the funeral; it could in fact mess with the investigation. He went up to whoever this woman lying in a casket that was meant for someone else was, and fake said his goodbyes. While he was standing over this lifeless body he was actually thinking "who are you? Why were you mistaken as Betty Ellis? And how?" Agent Thompson looked around at all the people here to say goodbye to the woman they knew and loved. He felt bad for them. He felt bad because he couldn't tell anyone that he was talking to Betty Ellis and that she was still alive. He felt bad because he couldn't help Mrs. Ellis feel safe. He felt bad because he didn't have a clue on how to solve this mystery.
After the funeral agent Thompson went back to his apartment where to his surprise Mrs. Ellis was waiting for him. "How the hell did you get in here Mrs. Ellis?"
"Haven't I already told you not to call be that?"
"Yes, but.."
"No buts Thompson, call me Betty. Would you like some Tea? I hope you don't mind but I've made some."
"Sure, I'll have a cup."
Agent Thompson wasn't sure if he should trust this woman or not. She could be faking. Maybe she's just a stranger that wants to get in the way of the investigation. She could possibly be the murderer herself. Agent Thompson made sure to stay on guard the whole time he talked to her. She seemed to know a lot about Mrs. Ellis's life, that was normal for a murderer. She could have stalked poor Mrs. Ellis before stabbing her in the stomach 4 times and then finishing her off with a bullet to the head. "So... How did you escape this murderer that you no nothing about?"
"Well you see, I knew that this murderer was coming for me. He's tried to strike before. He attempted to hit me with a car. He's tried to strangle me, and finally he stabbed that woman and shot her."
"Who was she?"
"My twin, we were seperated at birth. Our mother died, her body couldn't handle having two babies. Our father said he couldn't handle having two children to himself so we were put up for adoption."
"Oh... I'm so sorry."
"It's fine, I guess. I didn't really know her. This was only the second time we met, the first was when we found all that stuff about our parent out. We were praying for our mother and then she was killed."
"Mr. Ellis told me that you were at the chapel to pray for your mother who just passed."
"My husband didn't know anything about my adoption. He thought my adopted parents were my real ones."
Agent Thomoson's partner agent Burns came to his door and asked if he was in. Agent Thompson quickly maneuvered Mrs. Ellis to the fire escape. "Stay here until I come and get you." Agent Burns came to tell agent Thompson that she had more evidence about the case. "I don't think Mrs. Ellis is dead. The women who was buried in that casket yesterday, she had a birthmark on her thigh. Mrs. Ellis didn't have it. Also she wasn't wearing the same clothes that Mr. Ellis said she was wearing when she left."
"Agent Burns, are you sure about this? If you are we would need to dig up the body and examine it."
"I am positive agent Thompson."
"Then make the call. If you believe this to be true, don't let me stop you."
Agent Burns made the call and asked for the body to be dug up. Agent Thompson was nervous about the whole thing because if anyone found out that he knew Mrs. Ellis was still alive he'd be fired and probably arrested. He wasn't sure why he didn't tell anyone, why wouldn't he? By not telling anyone, he was putting his job at risk, his life, and even possibly his family's life. Agent Thompson had a husband and two children. They were back in Georgia, where his home was. He wanted to solve this (without getting in trouble) as fast as he could so he could get back home to his family.
"You asshole, why wouldn't you tell them I was alive? It would make things a lot easier."
"You don't want me to, remember? Plus it's illegal for me to be holding back information (aka you being alive)."
"Ugh, fine."
Mrs. Ellis has been staying in agent Thompson's apartment for two weeks now. They"ve been waiting for Mrs. Ellis's sister, Jillian to be dug up. The town has been in chaos since agent Burns tried to get "Mrs. Ellis" dug up. The real Mrs. Ellis has been very on edge lately, when agent Thompson asked her about it she just shrugged it off and said it was nothing. Agent Thompson thought that Mrs. Ellis's killer must of heard about the whole commotion and is out to get her, the real her. It took two weeks but agent Thompson finally started to trust Mrs. Ellis. He really needed to start calling her Betty, they were starting to be friends after all. Agent Thompson thought so anyway. He didn't want to bother Mrs. Ell... Betty with the question. She's had so much happen to her she probably just wanted to be left alone.
"Beep Beep Beep"
"7:15 am already? Where did the time go? I was having such a peaceful sleep and then life had to ruin it. Wait, today is the day. Today's the day that Jillian's body is getting dug up. I can't believe I'm letting Betty come with me and see it. What if someone recognizes her? Why am I talking to myself? I think this case is leading me to go crazy."
It's been a month since Betty started staying with agent Thompson. Agent Thompson or Tom as Betty called him seemed to be happier since the Pretty ginger with green eyes moved in with him. She had no clothes except what she was wearing when she first showed up, so Tom went and bought her some stuff. He was extremely stressed out about the dig up that was happening that afternoon. He was bringing the woman who was supposed to be in the grave on some kind of messed up date to the dig up. It took a week and a half and 10, 000 dollars to convince Mr. Ellis to let them dig up "his wife." Agent Burns was convinced that that Mrs. Ellis was alive, somewhere, alone and scared. What no one knew was that she was alive, but not alone or scared. She was sleeping in Tom's bed while he was stuck on the pull out couch. Tom never understood why me bought that thing. He wasn't planning on staying here long, just until he could get his husband back. Tom cheated on Seth with their plumber one day when Seth was at work. He came home early and saw the two together. Tom moved to Bisbee because Seth told him to get the hell out of his house. He's been staying here for 5 months 2 weeks and 4 days. He hasn't talked to his husband or his children the whole time he was here. He was too scared to call Seth and hear his voice, he thought he'd be furious and never want to talk to him again. Tom understood, he would feel the same way if it was reversed, he just really missed his home and his family. So he promised himself that after this case he would go home and make everything right.
"Come on Tom, I wanna see this. We can't be late, come on."
"Betty, I don't think you should come. This is your sister that their digging up, you won't want to see this."
"You said I could come and that's exactly what I'm going to do."
Agent Thompson sighed "fine, let's go."
At the sight Tom introduced Betty as agent Olive, he said she was from California and that she was new on this case. Everyone seemed to believe him, that was everyone except Mr. Ellis who was there to watch. Tom started feeling unsteady when Mr. Ellis came over and started talking to Betty. Tom knew that Betty was going to slip up and say or do something to show that she was actually Mrs. Ellis and not agent Olive. Right after the body was dug up Tom told Betty that they needed to go. Betty said she was enjoying being able to stay out in public and talking to people, she didn't want to go. "We need to leave, your husband is curious and he'll figure it out eventually. Especially when they find out that's not actually you who was buried in that hole. You're risking a lot being seen in public just this time Betty, we need to get back to the apartment now."
When Tom and Betty arrived at his apartment they had hot chocolate and talked about the situation. They talked for hours about what they were going to do when agent Burns figured out that it wasn't her in that casket. Betty said that she was going to get her hair dyed tomorrow and she was going to start wearing makeup. (Betty's never worn makeup in her life so she'd look a lot different). No one would recognize her and they'd be safe, for a while anyway. When the word gets around to Betty's murderer that she was still alive, he or she would definitely come for her. "Betty, when this person comes for you, we'll be ready. He or she won't get you, they'll get what they deserve for murdering your sister and trying to kill you. You'll be safe, forever, with your loving family."
"I know Tom, but until then I'm always scared. My sister's murderer could be anywhere, anytime, waiting for me. They still want me dead, they'll kill me."
"No they won't, Betty.. They won't get you, I won't let them. You're safe with me. No one will hurt you, or get you."
"Do you promise?"
"I promise Betty."
Betty went to get her hair dyed, she also got it cut to her shoulders. She got a whole new wardrobe. She got lots of black clothes because she said she wore a lot of bright colours when she was Mra. Ellis. So now she was going to wear a lot of black as agent Olive. She said she always wore heels in her old life, now she was going to wear flats. She was going to make herself the complete opposite from who she used to be. The more she talked about this new life the more excited she sounded. It was almost life she always wanted this "new life".
Could she be behind the murder of her sister? Hoping that everyone would just suspect it to be her and not look into it? She obviously wanted a new life and no one knew about her sister except her. She could've killed and and left, she could've left and never looked back. But she didn't, she came to agent Thompson and asked for help. Maybe she regretted murdering her sister and wanted agent Thompson to find out she did. She said he was a smart man and didn't want to tell him anything she knew about the case. She possibly felt too bad and didn't want to talk about what she did. "Hey, come buy some food with me Tom."
"Yeah, I'm coming."
