Every day, five times a week, a man comes to my café and orders the same thing, every time. I don't mind it. I think it's very kind of him, coming every day at seven o'clock am sharp and stands in line, smiles, doesn't have to say anything because I know what he wants. He pays, says "Have a nice day!" And leaves. Nothing hard, confessing or complicated.
But late week was different. He didn't show up.
I was standing at the contour. It was a slow and rainy day of April. Only a few people had come and it was usually the same. My mom and dad, a nice old woman, a young couple and a little girl. "Honey! Can you fill me another glass please.""Course daddy." I spoke with a smile. I grabbed the coffee cup and walked to him with the steaming coffee.
"Where's that nice young man that always comes Ruby?" My mom asked, sipping her warm green tea. "He most be busy with work. I don't mind.""I want to know when he's gonna ask you out for once!""Momma... We've talked about this.""I know I know. Oh my goodness. Look at the time! Honey we need to be going"
I took my parents glasses and plates and they left. Hours passed and the man still didn't come. It was eight pm and that was closing time. I grabbed my broom and began sweeping. "I do wonder why he didn't come today? He usually c-" I was stopped with my thinking with the door opening.
"Oh... Im sorry but we're cl-" It was him! The man! He had come. But he was soaking wet from the rain. "Oh. I'm sorry. I'll just leave.""No it's fine! You don't need to be out there on that weather. Here, come sit down." I pulled out a chair and cleaned it off.
He sat down and took his jacket off. Then I handed him his coffee. I thought he would have came so i made it and kept it hot. "Wow. You actually made it." He chuckled. "Well you came every day so I thought you would have came." I spoke with a giggle. He smiled and took a sip. "Taste better every day I get it." He said smiling and look at me. I grinned and continued cleaning. "What's your name?" The man asked. This startled me and I turned and looked at him. "It's Ruby." I smiled, continued cleaning.
"So what about..." I turned to ask him what his name was, but he was gone! I look around and the door was slightly open. I sighed and picked up his coffee, then noticed a note was written on it.
"Thanks for the coffee. See you tomorrow. Sebastian Stan."
I looked at it and smiled,
"Sebastian. That's a nice name."
