Reigisa : What Friendship Can Lead To

Chapter Two

Rei looked at Nagisa and realized he was still holding his hand. He quickly pulled his hand back and pushed up his glasses embarrassedly. Nagisa looked down at his textbook. None of it made sense to him. He groaned.

~ Later ~

"Nagisa, why don't we take a break?" Rei said hours later. Nagisa nodded. He was starving and hoped Rei had some food to eat. "Do you wanna go to a diner?" Rei asked, looking at the ground.

"Yea, if you're paying, Rei-chan!" Nagisa laughed and stood up. He brushed off his legs in an attempt to make his jogging shorts look less wrinkled. Rei stared at him.

"Nagisa those pants are not gonna cooperate." Rei laughed sarcastically. He knocked Nagisa's head with his fist in a playful way.

"Hey, Rei-chan! That kinda hurt!" Nagisa said.

"Oh yea? You, penguin, can't handle the strength and beauty of a butterfly like me." Rei fiddled with his glasses, but he acted confidently. Nagisa had an urge to argue like they normally do, but he decided not to.

"Cmon, Rei-chan! Oh, you're buying me a strawberry shake." Nagisa teased.

"But I'm the one who tutored you!" Rei yelled out to Nagisa as he exited the household.

~ At The Diner ~

Nagisa noticed that Rei prefers Pepsi over Cola. And that he prefers sweet potato fries.

"Ya know, if we were a thing, those nasty fries would be a deal breaker." Nagisa teased.

Rei raised an eyebrow. "A thing?"

"I meant figuratively! I mean, I'd rather date you over Haru or Makoto." Nagisa quickly explained.

"I think they may date each other in the near future." Rei giggled. Nagisa loved when Rei laughed. Normally around him at the swim club, they fought. But when they hang out alone, Nagisa realized Rei smiles a lot more and opens up to him. The thought alone that Rei is more comfortable around him made his heart flutter.

"Oh, Nagisa?"

"Yes Rei-chan?"

"Drop the "chan" ok? I don't wanna sound like a teenage girl when you call me." Rei smiled.

"Sounds good to me, Rei."

They continued to eats their separate meals. Nagisa got a classic cheeseburger with the strawberry shake he forced Rei to buy him. Rei had a salad and his nasty sweet potato fries. He also had a can of Pepsi on hand and an empty one next to his current can.

"Rei, do you think we'll be able to run the swim club when Haru and Makoto graduate?" Nagisa asked.

Rei dropped the fry he was eating. He looked up at Nagisa seriously. "I'm sure of it. Although, I'll be the one recruiting members. You only got one."

"Yea, and I wonder who that is." Nagisa poked Rei by leaning over the table. In the process, he knocked over Rei's soda. It spilled all over Rei's pants and shoes. Nagisa ducked. He was sure Rei would react crazily. Rei is very certain about things like his clothes.

"Nagisa, I can't take you anywhere, can I?" Rei lifted Nagisa's chin. "It's not a big deal, Nagisa." Rei tiredly smiled at him. Rei let go as the waiter came around with a towel to wipe up Nagisa's mess. Nagisa laughs. "I was so nervous over nothing." Nagisa thought.

~ Walking Home ~

"Hey, Rei can we walk home?" Nagisa said after Rei paid the bill for their dinner.

"Tired? Ah, why not?" Rei said.

They started to walk back to Rei's house. Once they got there they'd separate and Nagisa would continue on home. Nagisa looked over at Rei. His purple eyes seemed way more vibrant than they had been this morning at class.

"Rei, about that love letter." Nagisa looked at Rei's eyes.

"Didn't I tell you, I turned her down." Rei said as if it was very obvious.

"I know, I know, but are you, are you interested in someone?" Nagisa asked bluntly. He walked in front of Rei so he couldn't avoid answering the question.

Rei just smiled weakly. "Yea, I am interested in someone. But our relationship may be ruined if they don't feel the same way."

Nagisa was shocked at his answer. Rei likes someone. He will want to spend time with someone either than himself. Nagisa felt immediately jealous and possessive. He blushed.

"Who is the object of the butterfly's affection?" Nagisa questioned with a fake smile.

"Now if I told you, it wouldn't be very fun, would it?" Rei said. He turned to his driveway and waved to Nagisa. "Next time, you're paying!"

"Ha, ok!" Nagisa said. Rei went inside and closed the door. "It's going to be absolutely no fun at all, Rei-chan, not fun at all." Nagisa said to himself as he sulked all the way home.
