Chapter 9
(Lisbon POV)
At night Jane is still at work, so I head home and cook some pasta. I had just finished adding the sauce and putting the plates on the dining room table, for Jane when he came back, when the doorbell rang. It was obviously not Jane because he has his own keys, duh! So who would be knocking?
Jane and I have distanced ourselves from the social life more from fear then being unsocial. We just didn’t have any friends, company, or people we personally knew.
I washed my hands, dried them on a paper towel, and walked over to the door. I checked through the peephole.
I gasped as I saw someone I never thought I’d ever see again. The fiery red hair had given enough away, Grace Van pelt was at my doorway.
I resisted the urge to open the door and give her a hug. I couldn’t let Grace know I was here, especially her living with Jane.
But how had Grace come to my doorstep? How did she find us (well me right now)?
“Penelope!” Grace called. Penelope…that is my name now. Shit.
I slowly walked away from the door and behind one of the marble pillars. I peeked to see if there was a way Grace could see me from the window here, hopefully not.
“Lisbon, we need to talk,” Grace whispered-half-yelled, “I know you’re in there! Is Jane there too?”
No, I'm alone.
I heard Van Pelt sigh, “I will not reveal your identity unless I need to. I could actually bring the FBI in on this too and more cops, this place would be surrounded in less then five minutes.”
Is she seriously threatening me?
“Penelope! I see your car outside; I know you’re in there! And if you don’t let me in yourself, I will let myself in!”
I tried to relax my breathing with some simple yoga fire breaths. I finally calmed down and stepped away from the pillars shadow and head to the door.
I open the door and a pair of skinny arms are wrapped around my body before I can say a word.
Grace suddenly lets me go and pushes me back inside shutting the door behind her.
“Lisbon! I'm so glad you’re okay!” she hugs me again.
I hug her back although I am annoyed with her slightly. I let her go so I am just holding her arms, “Did you seriously have to threaten me?”
“I had no choice. You wouldn’t come out any other way. Is Jane…or should I say Adrian here?”
“No, but why and how are you here?”
“Why? Because I care for you. How…because I remembered you saying once while we were out on the job (the time where you had forgotten about keeping our personal lives private) that you had always wanted to come here. Also…I didn’t tell anyone, but I had traced your phone a little before you shut it off. You were at the Canadian border. So I searched for a while until I found two people of different sexes with different names living unmarried together. There were quite a few options, but I finally found you guys with those nice hipster glasses in your pictures. By the way Lisbon…dirty blonde doesn’t suit you as well as dark brown. And as for the troublemaker, dark brown? His blonde hair was perfect!”
I laughed but nudged her slightly (I didn’t like how she thought of Jane’s hair, why do I get jealous so easily?). I don’t think someone has ever said so many words without stopping for breath once.
“And I think it is so romantic how you and Jane left to Canada as now known fugitives! So romantic!”
I laugh slightly, “But Grace. Why are you here without you know telling anyone.”
“Well you know who I told.”
“Rigsby?”
“And Cho,” she looks down, “They couldn’t come today since they are busy now. But no worries about them knowing, you are safe. They both knew Jane would one day kill Red John, so there okay with it since they have been prepared. And who can disagree? That bastard deserved what he got! Red John will have troubles in the after life though…”
“Grace, thank you for coming, but I'm fine now, I don’t think it will be that good if you stay for longer. I mean, it’s really good to see you, but-“
“Sorry boss- well I mean Penelope- I mean, wait, can I call you Lisbon?”
“Here, sure. Outside, no,” I say. I then remember I made enough pasta for leftovers and it doesn’t look like Grace wants to leave, so, “Grace, uh…would you like to stay for dinner?”
“Of course!” she squeals.
With that I serve her and then myself, leaving an extra plate out for when Jane will arrive.
Grace tells me on how two new people have entered their unit, with Cho as boss. She tells me the new girl, Jennifer Plikt, is good with technology, almost like Grace but most likely worse. And the guy with the dark black hair, Joseph Bean, is tough and can get people to confess easily. Also, good news for Grace, she is not the rookie anymore.
“You didn’t tell those two newbies about Jane and I, right?” I ask.
“Nope,” Grace shakes her head while putting some pasta in her mouth, “Not even a thought!”
I sigh.
I then hear some keys at the entrance and then Jane running into the house, “Who’s here? Penelope? I saw two cars!” he yells. He then comes into view and gasps as he sees Grace.
“Hi Jane,” Grace says calmly, “Nice hair.”
*So I love it when SOME of you comment or vote! But I am a needy person and I need more! I am like a spoiled child or a hungry hippo! Just give me more and I will be happy! Okay? Love you but give me more (hehehe sorry I'm just really weird and maybe even mean sometimes)! Who like's the name Penelope or Adrian? Ha! By the way, could any of you even imagine Jane or Lisbon with a dirrerent hair colors? I certainly can not! They both have perfect hair and I ruined it...oops!*
