As the rain poured from the sky above, soaking everything in its path I began to wonder if I'd ever find someone who wanted me. I had dated numerous times, and it was always a disaster. The cheating, the lying, the forgetfulness, the unforgivable words, the exes, the talk of robbing me of everything I ever knew...it was all too much. I hadn't had a boyfriend in over a year and honestly, I wasn't sure if I wanted one. It was going on midnight, and I knew nobody was supposed to be perusing a park past dusk so when a cop came by and shooed me away from my bench, I left without protesting too much. I wasn't homeless. Quite the opposite. I outright owned a beautiful condo downtown. I had quite a bit of money, just nobody to share it with. Come to think of it, that may have been why nobody ever cared to stay. They wanted the money I had inherited when my father passed away...and not me. Or maybe I was just as ugly as I felt I was that night, walking home in a thunderstorm. Upon arriving home, showering, and locating some comfortable pajamas, I laid in bed staring out the glass window wall in my bedroom. The skyline was screaming its neon colors at me and the raindrops were streaming down the glass. Down below cars honked and taillights and headlights illuminated the streets. The city was quite active after dark, but I was certain that the rest of my life was going to be nothing more than drunk one night stands, with a few friends with benefits tossed into the mix just for good measure. Gotta have diversity, right? I laughed softly to myself as I set my alarm for no good reason and flopped backwards into my bed. Little did I know across town there was another person watching the skyline with me.
MARK:
It isn't easy seeing the skyline from the back yard. It's pretty far out there. I don't even know why I'm looking at it tonight. It's a shitty night...thunder and lightning...rain...yet I feel drawn to those lights tonight. Something strange is happening but I don't know what. I sighed, drifting into a daze, mesmerized by the glow of the city. As I stood up to go an edit another video, I cast my gaze upon the tallest building and quietly wished it a good night.
The skyline reflected in Mark's eyes as yours slowly closed. Another day awaited you in mere hours, and you had no idea what to do with it.
YOU:
I awoke around 9...thank goodness I was able to quit my job due to my inheritance. I was never a morning person or a punctual person. I was never fashionably late, I was irritatingly late. I'm the kind of person who would be late to their own funeral. As I approached the shower I heard my phone's familiar notification tone. I checked it. A new YouTube video from Markiplier. I set my phone down, before returning to pick it up. I could watch Mark in the shower. Why else did I buy a waterproof phone? I tripped and fell, sending my phone flying into the sink...which had a nice sized puddle of water in it. Maybe that was why. I turned the water on and brought up the video on my phone. Another prop hunt video. I always liked those. The water streamed down my phone, and I occasionally swiped my hand across the screen to clear it up. I giggled through the entire video, and then switched to a recent upload of Yandere Simulator. I smiled as I watched Mark do his famous outro. I stopped the water and toweled off. I dressed myself and sat on the edge of my bed, looking at my phone. What a great deal it would be if I could date someone like Mark. He seemed so nice-so fair...I was certain he'd never cheat on me or intentionally hurt me. It was a pipe dream though. I didn't know him at all and probably never would. I admired the skyline again from my bed. What a bleak and dreary day it was looking like. Black clouds hugged the skyscrapers and it was sprinkling. Clouds of smog seemed to hover over everything. This was the perfect day to go for a walk in my books. Not too many people would bother me since the weather was unfavorable for most peoples' excursions. I picked up my handbag and phone and headed down to the streets. The sprinkling rain and turned into a downpour. I took off, splashing my way through downtown. I was having myself a good time until I fell and landed face down in a puddle. I heard a man laughing. "Are you okay?" I looked up. Our eyes locked as I did a double take, my eyes growing wide and my cheeks growing flush with embarrassment...and attraction. "I'm okay." I scrambled to get up off of the sidewalk. I threw a look over my shoulder at my condo complex. Nope. It was too far away to run into and hide my shame. "Are you sure, your face is bleeding." I touched my face and sure enough, I pulled my hand back to see blood. "I...uh..." I drew a massive blank. The man pulled out a tissue from his pocket and handed it to me. "Thanks." I said quietly, holding the tissue to my nose. "What's your name?" "(Y/N)." I said. "Well, hi (y/n) I'm Mark." I smiled weakly. "I know." I said. Mark chuckled. "So you've heard?" He said. I nodded. "Moderate fan." Mark smiled. "What are you doing out here on such a gloomy day?" He asked. "I was just splashing around. I really don't go out much and I like this weather...you?" Mark smiled warmly. "I was going to get coffee. I don't come downtown all that often, but I saw the skyline last night and thought it might be nice to come and see it again up close." Those words gave me a chill. I was totally engulfed in the skyline last night. It was extra beautiful. Was this an odd coincidence or fate? I opened my mouth to say something and find out.
