Chapter Twenty Four
The three of us ran back through the sewer. Well Kerry and Yuri ran—they just dragged me along. The pain in my leg made me feel as if I was on fire. I couldn't understand how rappers could brag about something like this. It was worse than getting your wisdom tooth removed. At least than you could be heavily sedated.
"Talk to me you guy's what's going on." Taylor beeped in. "The cops just pulled into the parking lot of the museum."
"Autumn's been shot." Yuri said.
"What! Alisa shot her?"
"Yeah right in the leg." She breathed out heavily. I felt bad knowing I was the cause of it. "We're out the crossroads heading back towards the men's room. Are the guards still down?"
"Yeah, but I'm going down to tie them up just in case they wake up. I'll also tell James to get the helicopter ready."
"Not just yet!" I tried to say loudly but instead came out in a whisper. "The cops will notice it. Wait until we're near so you can do that radar thingy."
"Gotcha. Hold on Autumn. I'll keep it clear from this end."
Kerry and Yuri continued to drag me down the long sewer pipe. Had I not been shot, we could have covered way more ground and could have been out of here in no time. However, we still made it back to the hole in record time.
"There it is!" Kerry shouted as we turned the corner. We were back to the hole in the wall. They quickly pulled me towards it as I felt myself growing tired.
"Hold her." Yuri said handing me over to Kerry. I leaned on Kerry as Yuri stepped through the hole first. "Okay now pass her to me."
They maneuvered me through the hole in the bathroom. From here we could hear the sirens across the way at the Louvre Museum. Taylor came into the bathroom and wiped something cooling around my leg. She said something along the lines about it helping but I was too out of it to tell. The girls carried me out the restroom as Taylor stayed behind to clean down the wall we came through. She didn't want to jinx the chance of any of my blood being on the broken bricks. As it were she picked up a few and tossed them into the sewer, so they would land in the water.
We waited for in the hall as she backed out the bathroom, her hands going across the floor. Tossing the dirty napkin in one of her bags, she placed them on her shoulder and stared at her handheld device.
"Okay let's go."
The four us exited out the back door as Yuri relocked it. Taylor snatched up her stray dog and stuffed him in her bag as we hurried back through the woods. A couple of branches rubbed across the cool blanket Taylor had applied causing me even more pain. I let out a groan.
"Hold on Autumn." Yuri said. "We're almost there."
Our boots hit the muddy ground as we continued on the path we had previously marked. I was growing more and more tired by the minute as I wondered was all this worth it? Yes we had gotten the painting but at what cost? I had been shot and Alisa was probably going to jail.
We reached the clearing and spotted the black helicopter. James who had been sitting inside reading, jumped out at our approach. There was a look of relief on his face until he saw me being dragged by the girls.
"What happened? What's wrong with her?"
"She's been shot in the leg." Kerry said. "She's losing a lot of blood. I think we need to get her to a hospital."
"No hospital." I mumbled.
"Yes, take her to the hospital." Yuri said agreeing with Kerry.
"No! No hospital." Taylor said. "Did you guys forget that we're supposed to be at school at this moment? In California!"
