April 9th, 2036

I walked in to the diner with my 13 year old daughter, Beatrix, or Bea, as I call her.  I had been planning on cooking tonight for dinner, but we were both having a craving for burgers and I didn't feel like going to the store to buy burger meat.  I could've asked my husband or boyfriend to run to the store to buy some.  That is if I had either in my life.  Yup folks, that's right.  Single mom here.

"What do you want?" I asked her, already knowing the answer.

"Um, a burger?" she answered, shooting me a raised eyebrow.

"Ok" I said, raising my hands in surrender.  "I was just wondering if you wanted to change it up to maybe hot dog, or a different kind of burger or a-"

"Hi, what can I get ya?" I was cut off by the man behind the counter.

"Two cheeseburgers and fries please" I answered, looking to Bea for her nod of confirmation.

"For here or to go?"

"To go"

"You got it" the man answered.  "Can I get your name?"

"Lucy" I said, thankful that my name wasn't too complicated.  I'd tried giving them Bea's name in the past but it had only lead to confusion and they'd ended up calling out Bellatrix instead of Beatrix.  I have more sense than to give my daughter the same name as a Harry Potter villain, thank you very much.  Even if the villain was awesome.  Maybe I shouldn't have given her such a weird name.  I could've gone with Beatrice, or something even simpler, but I was young and liked interesting names.  Thank god her father hadn't let me call her Willow or Buffy.  Yes, I was going through a Buffy the Vampire Slayer phase at the time.  Don't judge.

Bea and I turned and began walking to a table near the front to wait for our food to be done, but, of course, I tripped over a stranger's foot on the way there.

"Oh!  Sorry!" I said, looking up at the person whose foot I'd just trampled on.  My heart stopped.  I felt the colour drain from my face.  Our eyes widened with recognition.

"Will?"

"Lucy?"
