Opening doors

I breathed in his minty scent as he held me in his arms. My sobs had stopped, my eyes almost completely dry. I felt fuzzy inside a feeling I had never felt before.

Contentment?

Shawn's large hand stroked my brown locks his head rested on top of mine. His other hand cupped my cheek gently his calloused thumb stroked my cheek. We both sat on the floor where I had crumbled only minutes before. A knock on my door echoed through the big empty house. My breathing hitched that knock could only be one person. It was a secret knock we had learned in junior high. I slowly got up from my position walking towards the door. I opened the door to immediately be engulfed in a hug. "You did it E!" Sophia whispered in my ear. "I really did." My voice betraying me by cracking at the end. Sophia pulled out one guitar shaped key from her purse that lay draped over her shoulder. Waving it she placed it in my hand the cold metal kissed my skin. I suddenly felt cold in my sweatpants and griffindor T -Shirt. "I'll stay you go."
"What?" Asked my brown eyes meeting Sophia's blue ones.
"This is your moment E go enjoy it please. I'll stay here with little elephante" she smiled warmly. I hugged her as tight as I could. She was my rock.
"Ehem!"

I jumped slightly startled by the noise that came from behind me. Shawn.
He took two large steps meeting me at the door. Sophia's face turned a light shade of pink at the glimpse of the brown haired brown eyed boy. I chuckled shaking my head grabbing my jacket off the hook and my keys from the basket. I looked at the time on my phone 11:24pm. "I'm just going to check it out I'll be back in about half an hour." Sophia nodded already laying on the couch scrolling through Netflix. "I love you soph"
"Yeah yeah get out of here" she waved her hand dismissively. I chuckled closing and locking the door behind me.

We live in a nice neighborhood but still.

I met Mendes in my car turning up the heat. We sat in comfortable silence until we reached a red light and Mendes spoke.
"So...."

"Yes?"

"Can I know where we are going?"

Green light

"No"

"Is this where you kill me?" He asked smile carved on his face.

"Well Hoover dam! Now you know! I wanted it to be a surprise!" I faked disappointment.

"It was the burger! It was poisoned wasn't it?! Now you've come to burry my body?!" He gasped.

"Yes totally of course!"

I pulled into the driveway. Turning off my car and stepping out. It was beautiful. It was home.
I ran up the front steps almost falling. I gently placed the key in the door listening to the gears click telling me the door had been successfully unlocked. "Emma cou-"
"Shhh!"

I turned the knob opening the door. The door to my future.
