Off With Your Head

Someone's shaking me and I don't know why. I wish they would go away. I'm tired and I wish to sleep.

"Alison. Alison wake up! Come on we don't have time for this. Get. Your. Fat. Ass. Up!" A urgent voice whispered harshly in my ear. That's not any voice... That's red. Slowly, my eyes open. "Get up you lazy bum! The herd moved faster than we planned. We need to get to Grannies." She grabbed my shoulders and jerked me to a standing position, just then we heard the unmistakable sound of them..

Spinning around I look behind us. There, through the trees you can just barely see one. Zombies. The creatures of the night.

"Crap! Red, run. Run. Now!" I grab her hand and drag her as I start sprinting through the trees.

"Ali what do we do? They're closer than I thought. They'll catch us!"

"Run till we get to Grannies. It's gonna be a close one though. Let's just hope we're faster than they are. Keep running!"

"Maybe if we don't get their attention, then we won't have to fight out way out of this one. Unlike last time."

"Hey... That was an accident." I whispered. We've been running for a good twenty minutes now. I can tell Red got about as much sleep as I did. We're tired and hungry. And I don't know how much longer we can last. Suddenly Red trips. "Ouch!" She yelps.

"Ohh like that won't get they're attention!" I hiss. "Look, there's Grannies. Run ahead and get the gate open. I'll hold them off till then."

"She takes off for the gate as fast as she could hobble. I turn and pull my sword from where it was strapped to my back, pulling it out of its sheath, I swing and send it gliding though the first zombies head. I used that momentum to keep spinning and took another zombies head clean off its shoulders.

"Ali, come on the gates open. But it won't be for long. Hurry!"

"Coming!" I yelled, kicking the closest zombie away and shoving another. The run of your life Alison, I think. Pivoting on my heel I sprint to the gate with them hot on my trail. "Start closing it now or it'll never shut." I barely get in the gate with only a second to spare.

"Grannie!? Are you here??" I call.

"Alison? My little Ali and my beautiful Red! How was your last run? Not too much trouble I hope."

"Grannie!" We call together, running to hug the onky family we've known.

"We had a few run-ins with the creatures. Ali did amazing though! Grannie you should see her fight!" Red exclaimed.

"Ohh love, your amazing too! You got hurt, so it's okay." I smiled.

"You were hurt dear?? Come, come. We must get you taken care of." She motions us to follow her inside.

"Yes Grannie." Red whimpers as she stepped on her foot wrong. I rush to her and help her get inside and away from their eyes.
