Eerily Quiet
"Alison Rose! Ruby Red! Get your lazy butts up and come down for breakfast or I'm coming up there!" Grannie called from downstairs.
I groaned. "Okay Grannie!" Yawn. "We'll be down in a minute." I look over at Red, who's sleeping so soundly. "Wakey Wakey Wolfy!" I screech as I pick up my pillow and hit her face with it. She wakes with a start, growling, eyes glowing.
"What?" She half snaps half groans.
"Time to get up. Grannie threatened to climb into the tower and drag us down by our ears if we don't come down."
"She did not!" She laughed. "She hasn't been up here since we were eleven." Red murmered, rubbing her tired eyes.
"Then we'd better get down. After all, we go out again today after breakfast." I remind her.
We get dressed in clothes that suit the outside world. Clothes that have come to this land when people mistakenly find their way here. A dark tank top and faded baby blues for me. A red top and dark washed jeans for her. And to top it off, our signature high ponytails and combat boots.
"We'll be okay right? In the real world? Your old world...?" Red asked, looking worried. Nothing scares Red, except my old world.
"I was three when I left, so I don't remember much. But we know exactly where we're going and who we're looking for. We'll be okay." I promised to her, praying silently that I was right.
"Girls! Breakfast is getting cold!" Grannie called.
"Coming Grannie." We yell. I twist the latch and pull the door up. We walked down the spiral wooden staircase two steps at a time. I stop to sniff the air. "Do you smell that?" I ask. We take in another deep breath.
"Pancake!" We race down the steps together. "Ohh Grannie... You didn't have to do all this for us." I say, Grannie made pancakes, and eggs, bacon and homemade orange juice.
"Yes I did. My two girls just got home from a dangerous mission only to leave for and even more dangerous one right after. Eat up my babies, you'll need the strength." Grannie sighs. Red and I know how much of a toll this is taking on our Grannie.. us constantly leaving to do something that could one day get us killed...

"Be careful, my loves. Stay together. Don't let anyone or anything separate you two. Take your cloaks and never take them off. They'll protect you as long as you keep them on. Don't be afraid and you'll be fine. I love you, my daughter's. Come home to me." Grannie says, tears streaming down her face.
"Ohh Grannie... Don't cry, we'll be back before you know it." I promised.
*Time laps of two hours*
"Is this it?" Red asks, looking skeptical.
"This is it. The Rabbits Hole. Take my hand. We'll go together. One.... Two... Three!" We jumped, and Red screeched, clutching my hand for dear life. It's dark and cold, just as it was fourteen years ago...
