The girl had taken her time to walk home, aware that her father wouldn't be there as she stopped at a stray cat that purred softly when Aoko had stroked its ears. She had smiled down at the tiny creature. She had felt envious of animals; always having nothing on their mind apart from sleep and eat. Unlike her, her mind and heart was crowded with thoughts and unanswered questions.
Before letting out one more sigh, she had waved goodbye to the cat and eventually reached her house.
Opening the door, she had let out a scream as black-clothed men had suddenly grabbed her violently by the arm and a rope had been harshly tied around her wrist as she struggled against the strangers but only to be defeated with ease with the men's overpowering strength.
The girl had felt tears run down her cheek as she was shoved harshly into the black car that had been parked outside on the street, which the stubborn girl had carelessly not thought about or even seen with her currently limited vision of her running thoughts.
"It's her, right? Aoko Nakamori, don't want to make a mistake," one had muttered, titling his hat further down towards his face.
Aoko attempted to take a look at the men's faces but failed, as a large hand slammed onto the back of her head, shoving her weak body, brutally.
"Don't let her see your faces," the man had warned, holding down the girl in his violent grip. The girl silently screamed in pain as she felt her forehead crash into the back of the front seats.
The car had started and she watched helplessly as she had been taken further and further away from her house; where her dad wouldn't even be willing to be after work. Where her crush had never once bothered to pay a visit to.
She looked down at her lap and shut her eyes tightly, trying to hold back the water that wanted to run down her face.
Her inner voice had echoed through her head the whole entire time. Surprised at her desires, what she had called out for was not Ginzo; her inspector father, but Kaito.
'Kaito... save me,' she had silently cried.
***
"Easier done than said," Kaito had smirked, tossing the jewel in his hand carelessly, earning a sigh from his assistant.
'It's the other way around...' The old assistant had thought, though other important matters filled his mind.
"Botchama, I suggested you to check on Aoko-san before the theft but you didn't. I am very unsure about this."
Kaito clicked his tongue, "They were just talking big. Nothing could've happened..." his voice drifted off as Jii stared at him, awaiting for a response but there was none.
"I should probably check on her..." he said aloud, earning an approval from Jii before taking off into the night sky.
He had landed on top of Aoko's room's balcony and peeked inside, careful to not cause too much noise, aware that he is still in his Kid suit. To his surprise, none of the lights were turned on and he knew she wouldn't have slept this early, it was only six. Not to mention, she wasn't even on her bed.
'Weird...'
He jumped down from the balcony and landed in front of the house, only to find the front door wide open and an old lady worriedly wander about in front of the house.
He frowned, curious as to why a neighbor would be running about in the evening, especially in front of someone else's house.
He decided to investigate further, so he ducked behind his cape and instantly, his clothes disappeared and instead, he was dressed in his usual casual clothing. Double-checking his appearance at the window, he walked up to the fuzzy-haired old lady and coughed awkwardly.
"Excuse me, but what's the matter?"
The old lady turned to face the young man in bewilderment as her eyes quivered with fright.
"Aoko-chan... she was abducted!"
Those four words had completely destroyed the magician's ever-lasting poker face as his face turned pale and his eyes widened.
He could feel his heartbeat race and his hands shake uncontrollably as he took a deep breath, hoping he had heard wrong.
"A-Aoko...she what?"
"She's been kidnapped!"
Kaito was now slightly stumbling on his own two feet as he tried to get a grip of himself.
'She's probably just mistaken Aoko as someone else...'
"Are you sure it was Aoko?"
The lady had not hesitated to nod her head rapidly.Kaito narrowed his eyebrows, turning to the lady, both hands firmly gripped on her shoulders.
"Which way?"
