ENTRY NUMBER 1: This is it... Time to do what the King has asked me to do. I will create the power to free us all. I will unleash the power of the SOUL.

Alphys sat back in her office chair, letting out a sigh. She wasn't at all sure about this. The little voice in her head was telling her this was not good, but she ignored it. Mostly.

ENTRY NUMBER 2: The barrier is locked by SOUL power.. Unfortunately, this power cannot be recreated artificially. SOUL power can only be derived from what was once living. So, to create more, we will have to use what we have now... The SOULs of monsters.

ENTRY NUMBER 3: But extracting a SOUL from a living monster would require incredible power... Besides being impractical, doing so would instantly destroy the SOUL's host. And, unlike the persistent SOULs of humans... The SOULs of most monsters disappear immediately upon death. If only I could make a monster's SOUL last...

She shook her head. There wasn't any immediately conceivable way. Resting her chin on her palm, she stared blankly at the computer screen. The light reflected off of her glasses, sending a square of light up onto the wall behind her desk. She found herself staring at the projection rather than the screen, and practically fell off of her chair when her cellphone rang.

"H-hello?" She answered, wondering who on earth could be up this late. Apart from her, of course.

The monster on the other end spoke in gibberish. "☝⚐⚐👎 ☜✞☜☠✋☠☝📪 ✌☹🏱☟✡💧📬 🕈☟✌❄ ✌☼☜ ✡⚐🕆 👎⚐✋☠☝ 💧❄✋☹☹ 🕆🏱✍ "

"U-uh," Alphys blinked, confused and a little intimidated before she realized who it was. "Oh! Gaster! I'm s-so sorry, I f-forgot to turn on the translator. Hold on," she took the phone away from her ear and pressed a button. "Okay, there we go." Her smile was apparent in her voice. "Go ahead, I can u-understand you now,"

"Good." The skeleton's voice was heard from the other end of the line. "Alphys, I have to ask, why on earth are you still up? It's almost 3 in the morning, you know."

Alphys looked at the clock. "Oh, Jesus-- s-sorry. Yeah, it is..." She chuckled nervously, unsure of how to answer. She couldn't tell anyone about what the King had asked of her, what would happen then if everything failed? "I, um-- I got c-carried away w-watching M-Mew Mew K-Kissie Cutie, I guess, heh," it was feeble, but it would have to hold.

Gaster laughed. "I see. Get some sleep, Alphys. You aren't nocturnal, you know--"

"Yeah, I know," she cut him off. "Alright, alright, I'll go to bed. Okay, good night, Gaster, bye," she hung up quickly. She didn't like talking, to anyone, especially not over the phone.

The reptilian took off her glasses and rubbed her eyes. It was true, the words were swimming on her screen, implying she should probably sleep before she started hallucinating. That would be bad.

She shut off her computer then stood up, grabbed her lab coat, and went to her room.
