She stared at the traffic light as though it was chocking the life out of her. It kept counting down to indicate the GO sign; five seconds left.

As impatient as she was, she kept stepping down the accelerator, yet the car stayed steady. Giving off fumes.

One could feel her mood from the manner she pressed down the accelerator yet she held the break.
The yellow Toyota Camry gave a squeal for mercy as it heated up.

Releasing the break, the car jerked foward almost throwing off her grip on the steering. It didn't. The sit belt held her tight and still.

It was a second before the green GO light shone. she zoomed off not minding the possibility of running into an incoming vehicle.
She couldn't wait a second longer. Her father was dying.

As a commuter shuttle driver she was aware of the possibilities of getting nabbed by the police for jumping the traffic light but she didn't care. She twisted the gear in order to move faster.

"Slow down!... take it easy Shey or you're gonna ruin yourself and get yourself killed"

She ignored the voice in her head almost instantly.
For three years she had been in the commuter business and she knew she was good at it. All the shortest routes in and out of the city of Lagos were her close friends.

She could drive one to both where it happened and where it would happen.
Her pay usually differs if her passenger needed her recommendations as to where and when best to catch fun, hang out, meet up, hook up, lodge, rest, worship, or get medicated. Which ever be the case.

She adjusted the rear-view mirror to see if any one was pursuing her. No one!
Her gaze quickly hit the digital clock and she could see she was running late already.
The doctor had warned her to be right on time. Nothing beyond 9:00PM.

Her car clock read 9:07PM and she was some kilometres away from the hospital.

"your father is suffering from respiratory disease"

"... You can also call it Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD in short.
His case is a mild lung condition though. it blocked his airflow, making his breathing difficult ... It is not a very serious case yet but you know the importance of oxygen to human system right? So you should be aware of how serious the situation is at the moment"

"I would do my best to sedate him for now, in order to calm his nerves and let more air into his lungs but I can only commence treatment as soon as u come with half of his bill tomorrow before 9:00pm ... And please don't be late... I would leave the clinic a minute after the time"

The impact of the mini port hole on the car released her from her thought, bringing her back to reality.
She had taken her father to the clinic minutes after he fainted the night before.
Now her delay could get him killed.

The doctor had told her to ensure the payment was ready the next day. That next day was today.
Her heart felt heavier as guilts started building up.

"I'll be dead if anything happens to him... He's all i have" she thoughfully reminded herself.

Her mother died when she was nine in a car accident. She couldn't bear to loose her only family.

His illness had started off mild with headaches and weaknesses but has progressively gotten worse over time. She didn't care if the doctor said his case was mild. She just wants her father healthy.

She drove to the clinic parking lot, ignoring the surprise looks of the night shift attendant as she paced into the inside.
She ran towards the locator board to read the map post in order to locate the doctors office.
