The airport in Shannon, Ireland is not what I expected. As soon as I step off the plane, I am greeted with endless fields of green. It's pretty, but I can tell we are in the middle of nowhere.
The entirety of the plane heads inside when Madison and Sierra meet up with me. I look behind for Greer, but he's disappeared in the midst of the passengers.
"Can you believe this mess?" Madison groans, "We're literally missing a day of our trip. We're supposed to be in Edinburgh by now and we haven't even hit London."
Sierra lugs her carry on her shoulder and visibly pouts, "We're going to get a later flight to London and an even later flight to Edinburgh. This seriously sucks. "
I force a grin, "Oh come on, don't let this ruin our trip. So, what if we're a little off schedule? We're still going to eventually get to Edinburgh." I say. I know that all of these unfortunate stops are terrible, but I've decided to not let it get the best of me.
"Yeah, you Debby Downers," We all hear from behind. Our heads look back to find Finn walking toward us. He catches up next to Madison and joins our group. "Ireland is cool. Now we can say we've been."
"We haven't technically been, Finn." Madison rolls her eyes.
Finn points to the ground, "My feet are on the ground. I'm no longer on the plane. I'm in Ireland, baby."
Madison grimaces, "Do not call me that."
"So dramatic." Finn mumbles.
We all head inside of the airport and get in line for a snack. The airport is filled with both locals and U.S soldiers heading home. A few of them greet us with smiles when they notice we're American, and we thank them for their service as we stand in line.
"Wait, Ireland is on the Euro, right?" Sierra asks, rummaging through her wallet.
I nod, "Yeah. That little E looking symbol means Euro, Sierra." I tell her, pointing to the menu.
She looks at it and stares in awe, "Wow. I never knew that."
Finn laughs from behind, "Look at you, little genius, you learn something new every day."
Sierra turns to him and glares, "Don't you have friends of your own, Finn? Piss off."
Finn crosses his arms over his chest and glares back, "Yes, I do, but I am hungry. Forgive me for wanting a damn snack, Sierra."
"You are so annoying." She tells him, "I swear, if I get sat next to you on this next flight, I am going to scream."
"I like them loud." Finn laughs. Sierra looks disgusted and shakes her head, while Madison and I try not to laugh. It was inappropriate, but Finn can be funny sometimes. Especially when he argues with people. Plus, Sierra flies off
After successfully buying our snacks without any blood drawn, we head to the waiting area where the rest of the group is. Mr. Munro is too busy at the desk planning our next flight, so us travelers are sat around sleeping, eating, listening to music, and doing whatever we can to kill time.
I spot Greer toward the back of the group sitting next to Chauncey. Chauncey is low in his seat asleep while Greer is writing in that same notebook from the plane. He's tapping one leg while the notebook is placed on the other. He looks up and his eyes meet mine. He flashes me a quick, soft smile before turning his attention back to his notebook.
Finn is still with us, sitting next to Madison, so I truly wonder what he's doing. Unless he and Madison developed some sort of bond on the way here, it's odd he is hanging around us. I don't mind, Madison doesn't seem to mind, but every so often I catch Sierra glare in his direction.
